pfrederi 17,735 #1 Posted March 7, 2023 Another topic about engine colors got me to thinking. All of old (pre-1979) WH Kohlers are Red. ( 753, L107 856 Chargers C-81) Have worked on some friends JD green Kohler and Ford Blue Kohler. My only newer tractors a 310-8 with a K241 is Black as are my C-175 KT 17s Black and the Magnum 18 in 418A. All the Magnum single and twins I have ever seen are black. So when did Kohler adopt the Henry Ford School of color choices? 1
wallfish 16,995 #2 Posted March 7, 2023 I don't think Kohler painted them but... The tractor manufacturers painted them to suit there own needs. That's why you typically see the carbs painted etc. That blue was the factory color for the old Ks. I have a red magnum 8 but it's from a tiller.
moe1965 738 #4 Posted March 7, 2023 Just goes to show you lots of other manufacturers of tractors realized a great engine and used it
953 nut 55,210 #5 Posted March 7, 2023 One thing you will notice on any barn find or survivor Wheel Horse is that Kohler used much better paint or painting techniques than . The engine paint is always brighter and in much better condition than the tractor.
rmaynard 15,444 #6 Posted March 7, 2023 If you go to Wheel Horse shows and find a few survivors that have NOT been repainted, the Kohler engines are a different shade of red than the Tecumseh engines. Almost all of them are a different shade of red that the rest of the tractor, which make me think that the engine manufactures painted the engines to Wheel Horse specs. And we all know that there are many variations in factory red.
