Tonytoro416 1,067 #1 Posted March 5, 2023 Does anyone have a close picture of the slide stop detent pin for shifter rails in a six speed transmission. When I took transmission apart it did not have one inside the spring so I never thought anything about it until now putting it back together it is mention in Steve’s video. Racinbob 11,204 #2 Posted March 5, 2023 Did it possibly head to the next county when you took is apart? It's easy to do. This isn't from a 5060 but it's the same pin (p/n 5614). It's the one on the left that's 3/4" long. NOT the one on the right that's 11/16" long. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
stevasaurus 22,856 #3 Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) Bob is correct, you need the 3/4" pin to keep the spring straight when shifting gears. You could cut a 6 penny finishing nail to length and put in the spring and be OK. You need the stop in there to be able to shift gears and stay in gear. stevasaurus 22,856 #6 Posted March 5, 2023 You need to take a look...either a 6 penny or an 8 penny would work. I do not think it needs to be tight in the spring...but it should be snug. I have not tried this yet, but I know it will work. The length is what is critical as it will dictate how the detent balls work. If you end up cutting a finishing nail, make sure the ends are square and the right length. You should be able to test the shifter and see if it works OK. Let me know what you think will work...6 or 8 penny. Do not make it to snug in the spring...you just want to keep it straight. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Tonytoro416 1,067 #8 Posted March 7, 2023 So at work today I made a slide stop pin out of a 8d nail and a 6d nail. I wanted to take one of each home with me as I didn’t bring the spring to work with me. I ended up using the 6 penny nail which should be just a shade smaller than 1/8th inch. The 8 penny mail felt like it was just a little to tight inside of the spring for my liking.
