A press would be the best way I believe.I didn't have access to one so I used homemade tool,   all thread and thick fender washers and nuts to tighten down to pull the bearings out, if that makes sense.

I'll see if I have a pic somewhere.

I replaced mine but you can grease them if not too worn once you get them out.I would just relace their not very expensive.

@Ed Kennell  think I used a thin brass drift punch to get that bearing  going , also liked the thread rod for installation . since using the correct lubricant in every related bearing , its a seamless / smooth / quiet  function. pete

I would not remove the bearing to grease it. That would likely destroy it.

Wash it up best you can  and follow up with a spray of brake dry clean and let it dry. That will allow the new grease to stick to the rollers. Work it into rollers until full and no more.

Fully agree on this. Removing a needle bearing from a blind holder without a removal-specific tool is pretty much certain to ruin the bearing. And even with the tool, it’s a gamble.

I was planning on a wash out and putting back new grease, anybody have a write up on taking the PTO apart ?

While I'm in there I was going to try my hand at popping the seal out of the sealed bearing too and give it a wash out/regrease

That bearing is $6.50 at Napa. #  PP204RR6 Hardly worth the effort to tear it open, cleaning it, Packing grease back in and trying to get the seal back in so it stays there.

so the small sealed bearing held in with the snap ring, does that just tap out with a drift punch and ball pein, or is it need a hyd press to get it out ?

You should be able to tap it right out.  When installing the new one, do not drive it in by the center race, you can use a socket or pipe that only contacts the outer race.

@John c  done this on all  horses , main thing for me is the hi temp grease , on the rubber side shield bearings , and the inner pto needle bearing , the outer bearing # pp204 RR6 is available at auto parts , like to verify what the lubricant is but for the money an outer pto bearing is an easy swap .would use lucas grease , the marine grease is available  Walmart for  $ 7.50 big tube , very hi temp / stress rating is what you want , very light coating on the inner needle bearing , those mule drive bearings are cake to pop off seals , clean out , brake cleaner flush , repack same amount , put seals back on . anything thing you can do to reduce that collective drag , makes things better , also did all my mower decks . those original spindle bearings , are used in ceiling fans , with the correct grease they stand up to heat and angular stress .  also put a heim joint on my pto lever clutch end , solid/ smooth , pete
