Chrishar 544 #1 Posted March 2, 2023 Have a k181 kohler engine that is putting oil out of the breath cover when it's running what can I do to fix it
rmaynard 15,451 #2 Posted March 2, 2023 Has the breather been recently removed? This usually happens if the breather is reassembled incorrectly. If not, maybe the reed valve has failed.

I believe he is referring to the inner plate drain hole - it HAS to be installed so it is at the bottom - and can be installed wrong!!
squonk 41,099 #4 Posted March 2, 2023 Either the reed and or gasket failed or it's time for a ring job.
953 nut 55,215 #5 Posted March 2, 2023 Is the engine burning oil (white smoke) or having signs of oil fouled spark plugs? Remove the dipstick and run the engine, is there a lot of pressure at the dipstick tube?

Chrishar 544 #7 Posted March 2, 2023 I rebuilt it two years ago this started three mouths ago when it's running oil starts coming out like smoke does at the breath hole but no smoke at the exhaust

To add to that, I would check that the drain hole is clear. Maybe some junk blocking oil from returning to the case?

squonk 41,099 #11 Posted March 3, 2023 When you say " Rebuilt" was the bore checked by a machine shop? How was it measured? Most guys see a cross hatch in the bore and think it's still good but in reality the bore is tapered or out of round. New rings are tossed in and that will get you by for a little while. Then they start blowing by resulting in exhaust smoke, oil out the breather or both.
