Pullstart 62,905 #1 Posted February 27, 2023 I’ve been holding sockets on my Mac Tools 1/2” impact for about 22 years. I bought it from a drunk kid in my high school class for $20. I imagine his dad whooped him silly when he found out what happened to it. It’s never had a retainer clip. 3

I spent the first one trying to figure it all out.
Pullstart 62,905 #4 Posted February 27, 2023 I will admit, there was a little magicery in the making of that video. After 20+ years of no clip being in place, the simple function of cleaning the groove with sand paper was working, but I hooked the impact to another air source, ran it backwards and had a zip tie on the trigger to run slow in a lathe function, then used a little death wheel on the Dotco to clean up the mushrooming that had happened over all that time. I did however run the sandpaper for about 10 minutes before I thought to clean it up @Achto lathe style. 1

WHX?? 48,823 #8 Posted February 28, 2023 I hear ya Dan ... the one on the left is the snap off the one on the right someone threw on the dock at the old shop for scrap. The scrapped one runs circles around the snap off. The snap off couldn't loosen a a nut from the Hosen's $ack. Figured if I turned it in would see snap off refurb it under their lifetime warranty??? Guessing not 2

ri702bill 8,327 #10 Posted February 28, 2023 Lifetime warranty - think not. That's life !!! More like a "Taillight" warranty....

We always joked about the 244 guarantee. Whatever we worked on, it’d at least get ya to 44!
squonk 41,136 #12 Posted February 28, 2023 I bought my Mac tools (IR 231) in 1979 1st week out of college. The hog ring wedged itself into the slot in about a year. Never replaced it thru 15 years working in dealerships. Still have it and break it out when something (Has to come off!) I have a 20volt Dewalt 1/2" Impact with a push button retainer and it takes a decree by the Pope to get even 44 year old worn out sockets on and off. I find my 3/8" impacts work on just about everything anyway.
