squonk 41,136 #4 Posted February 25, 2023 (edited) It is not a locked posi. It is " Limited Slip. Spring pressure offers resistance to the pinions turning. The difference in traction between each tire relative to the torque applied may be enough to overcome the spring. But most likely the spring is weak or broken. daveoman1966 3,752 #6 Posted February 25, 2023 There are several UTube videos on rebuild w/H transmissions. Key in "Wheelhorse 10-pinion" 1
953 nut 55,280 #7 Posted February 25, 2023 You should have a 5073 transaxle if it wasn't swapped out by someone. The spring that makes the differential a limited slip can get a bit weak over time or slip to one side where it isn't making any significant contact with the pinions on one side. Time to take it apart and take a look at what is going on. Lowell @wheelhorseman can fix you up with the spring https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/7235-spring/ as well as the seals, gasket and other stuff you'll need. @stevasaurus has some great threads on transmission repairs. 5

WHX?? 48,823 #15 Posted February 25, 2023 So @23 Reo Richard says you have a 5073. Please verify this is correct. Can you give us the complete model of the tractor. Next question is are you comfortable splitting it? Your skills mechanical wise? No crime if not... we can walk you through the whole process... if so we might be able to refer you to some one in your area that is.

Presuming we have determined it was a limited slip transaxle with 1 1/8" axles here is a quick way to figure it out. If your transaxle has a dipstick to check the oil it would be the 5073, If the oil level is checked by removing the fill cap located low on the left rear it is a 5060. The brake drum location is different too but not as easy to spot from the outside. 2
kpinnc 12,066 #23 Posted February 25, 2023 (edited) 8 hours ago, 23 Reo said: Is there a way to tell what transmission I have? Jack the rear wheels up. Spin one side by hand. If the opposite wheel spins the opposite direction, you have a newer 8-pinion differential. If the opposite wheel spins the same direction, you have the original limited slip tranny. You can tell brake drum easy enough, if there is a large gap or small gap between the brake drum and the left axle housing. There is a noticeable difference in the two IPL images too Edited February 25, 2023 by Pullstart

I use the dipstick as an identifier because it is so conspicuous. 3
