Redav72 227 #1 Posted February 18, 2023 I’ve got a brand new (nos) wheel horse belt that is getting shredded and I can’t tell why. Any clues?
Pullstart 62,916 #2 Posted February 18, 2023 All the pulleys are in line visually and the idler/tensioner is tight? Make sure when you install your belt guard, the tensioner is engaged (drive mode).
Redav72 227 #3 Posted February 18, 2023 They appear to be. Is my tensioner spring too weak? I do seem to get more slap around than I am comfortable with unless I put some pressure on it.
wallfish 17,014 #4 Posted February 18, 2023 Looks like it's rubbing the spring from the pic. Also looks like lots of belt dust in that area too The missing pieces of belt will cause more "slap" and belt jumping Look for where ever it's making contact with something
TractorEd 633 #5 Posted February 18, 2023 (edited) Maybe the belt was riding below the “belt support” on the bottom? It should ride on top of it. Its not in either picture. Edited February 18, 2023 by TractorEd

Definitely looks like it was running outside the belt guard on the bottom. Easy to do when putting the guard on if you don’t know to watch for it. oldlineman 1,481 #7 Posted February 18, 2023 Yep all of the above can do it.
squonk 41,158 #8 Posted February 19, 2023 Also check that brake/ engagement arm for wear at the pivot. It can cause mis-alignment.
Blasterdad 2,692 #9 Posted February 19, 2023 Looks to me like the belt got under the guide somehow, ( I've had it happen because of a bad tensioner pulley ). It MUST ride on TOP of the belt guard, like pic below... NOT under as pic below... 3
Redav72 227 #10 Posted February 20, 2023 Thanks, I did a full remount carefully minding the belt path. Seems good so far and took a ride around the block without issue. Also got the whole herd out for some exercise and a few pictures. 5
