Looks like a candidate for soap and water to me.  Hard to tell what is under there.

That's after a day mowing when it was dry. Definitely dusty! Makes the "dry dusty conditions" comment in the service manual make more sense.

 

It always gets a wash down after it cools. Maybe not soap every time, but the dust gets knocked off.

 

Better than my FILs Charger after getting up leaves. It was solid dirt- no visible red whatsoever. He stops at least twice while working just to clean the air filter out. But his engines are always pristine.

Front spindles cleaned up then painted.

How they looked when just de-greased.

 

Cleaned up and painted.

 

Installed with cleaned and greased thrust bearings.

 

Tie rods installed and a preliminary alignment completed.

Tunnel cover plate just sitting in place.

 

Next up are the wheels but I need more warmer weather so I may be done for now.

Finally got a warm enough day to get my bead blast cabinet out.

It is a little bench top unit that i sat on two saw horses out in the snow.

Cleaned up the brake drum.

I am sure wheel horse never painted these.

Do not have a before pic but it was rusty except where the brake band kept it shined up.

It cleaned up nicely and got a couple coats of semi-gloss black.

 

 

Brake shaft is cleaned up as well.

 

 

I will let the paint dry for another day or two then assemble.

Wow, that is nice work.

If I had a tractor that spiffy, I’d never want to get it dirty.

Hence, none of mine will ever look like that.

 

Noticing the clever support of the rear end. Somewhere on the forum is a slide show of the final WH production run. it shows the tractors moving down an overhead track assembly line suspended at the front by the attach-a-matic and the rear by the transaxle hitch pin hole!

Yes, i went through that slide show as well and it gave me some ideas.

Nice to be able to work on the tractor and/or paint it with basically nothing in the way.

The 3/4 rod is old valve handles from my days working at a chemical plant.

Another small but important step complete.

Brake and foot motion control pedal shafts were left as bare steel for pedal installation.

I punched 3/4" holes in pieces of heavy paper to act as a painting guide.

Shafts were then given 2 coats of self priming paint using a foam applicator.

 

After drying overnight I cut the paper and carefully removed it from the shafts.

 

This is how the tractor looks now.

 

I will give this paint a few days to dry before installing the footrests.

I have begun work on the seat mount pivot plate.

I modified this one a few years ago as it was badly worn.

Spacers were welded in and stainless steel shoulder bolts used as pivot bolts.

 

When it was disassembled I found the spacers to be rusty.

Well that won't do so I drilled and tapped the shoulder bolts to accept grease fittings and drilled a cross hole to direct the grease to the center of the spacer.

A shot of grease now and then should prevent rust.

 

Just need a warmer day for sand and paint of the seat pivot plate, mounting brackets and springs.

Removed front tires from wheels.

These had tubes which are now inflated and being checked for leaks.

They held air before being removed, I just want to be sure I did not damage them during tire removal.

 

Next warm day I will clean and paint these wheels.

Hopefully tires and tubes will be re-used.

Well it got just above freezing today so good day to do some wheel degreasing and washing.

 

You can see the wash sink I use just behind the house using a short hose that I keep inside and drained.

 

Not warm enough yet for sanding and paint however.

Well, we got another 6-8" of snow yesterday so the 520HC got to work with the blade and cleaned that up today.

After that I installed the right side foot rest then set the foot control pedal height and locked it in place.

 

Right side cover then installed.

 

Left foot rest then installed.

 

Left side cover installed.

 

The covers and foot rests were previously painted so just got re-installed as-is.

This is how she looks as of today.

Hopefully all this snow soon melts so I can move on to the rest.

I bought that F150 new in May 2020 and I baby it way too much

It now has 6,000Km on it (3,600 miles) and has never seen snow and rarely sees rain.

 

 

I can't wait till spring to get that and also my other toys out.

Well it got up to plus 2 degrees C today so I got the front wheels wire brushed, sanded, and painted today.

 

Wheels in primer.

 

2 coats of silver paint.

 

Tires cleaned up.

 

I will give the paint a few days to dry then re-assemble.

Tubes and tires installed onto wheels.

 

Grease fittings installed.

 

Inner bearings cleaned, packed with grease then installed.

Grease seals installed and spacer inserted.

 

One front wheel installed.

 

Both front wheels installed, grease pumped in then dust caps installed.
