Ed Kennell 38,163 #1 Posted February 16, 2023 What izit? The engine numbers (7HP T 74969 28937E) indicate a 704 with a Lawn Ranger hood ? Are Lawn Ranger and 704 hoods identical but for the decals? Is the seat correct for a 704? The belt guards don't seem to fit. Any idea what they are? The fenders seem to fit. Missing a console plate and a left side panel and correct belt guard ? Does the gas tank look correct? 1

ri702bill 8,318 #3 Posted February 16, 2023 Ed - The broken 2 spoke steering wheel look to be correct, the belt guard with no decal indentation does not - only one like that - that I know of - is the 701. Didn't the Lawn Ranger come with a 6 HP yank start Tecumseh??? The GOOD thing is that the hood is not cut below the upper steering shaft to aid easy removal.... Any ideas on the seat and fuel tank pictured with the fenders and belt guards.
ri702bill 8,318 #6 Posted February 16, 2023 (edited) i believe the seat is wrong, should be the rectangular (or square??) pan seat.... but that one is the one to have after a bean dinner... Edited February 16, 2023 by ri702bill 1 1

Which would fit in with the '61 to '64 models. If engine mount tab for the belt guard is on top it is for a Kohler. If the engine mount tab is in the middle it is for a Techy. Parts manual shows an oval gas tank. Fenders look correct for a 704 Edited February 16, 2023 by Achto
wallfish 16,995 #8 Posted February 16, 2023 Lawn Ranger, 604,654, 704 use that hood Gas tank is a Briggs and not correct Seat is the style for RJs and Suburbans Fenders are just like a 604,654 and? So is the frame. I'm not that familiar with Lawn Rangers so...might be the same My first guess is a modified Lawn Ranger by someone else that thinks those tiny front tires look ridiculous. 2

The Ranger uses a 2 piece stand held together on the sides with 4 bolts. I'm going to stick with 704 that has some other pieces thrown at it here & there. I do agree that the 4" rims look silly on a LR Edited February 16, 2023 by Achto

Ed Kennell 38,163 #11 Posted February 16, 2023 Thanks Mike, so my engine las a rope start. Can the rope start be replaced with the rewind? Is that the part I see advertised fo big bucks?
Achto 27,570 #12 Posted February 16, 2023 13 minutes ago, Ed Kennell said: Can the rope start be replaced with the rewind? A few options there. You can use a Morris Fairbanks recoil, Techy recoil, I think Kohler might have even made their own recoil. Important thing is to get the matching cup that bolts to the fly wheel with the recoil you find / choose.
squonk 41,096 #13 Posted February 17, 2023 Yes a Tecky recoil works. Make sure you get a " low mileage " one. 1
