Mower deck value

Recommended Posts

Hi, new guy here.

I have an old Wheel Horse "Work Horse" that I love. I mow and plow with it. I also picked up a 520-H with a snowblower in excellent condition for the deep stuff.(sold my plow truck)

Anyway, the 520 also came with a 48" side discharge deck which I have no use for. Mo. 78360.

I'd like some idea what to ask for it. It's in excellent condition like the tractor.

TIA

An excellent 48" SD in my area would sell for $250 - $350.

Excellent.... means good original  paint and decals, good blades, good quiet spindles, no rust, good anti scalp rollers and height wheels, good belt and tension pulley.

This is a great time to sell a nice deck. We have quite a few members from New England, one of them is bound to need another deck. List it right here and see how you do.  https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/classifieds/for-sale/

I've gotta' say, I paid close to the price in post #2 for a 36" deck for my WorkHorse. Maybe I'd be better off parting it out. Are these that easy to come by?

There's not that many parts that will sell on those aside from the shell and spindles. Probably come out about the same.

Just like real estate,  location, location, location.     I made an estimate on selling price in SC Pa. which is pretty rich in Wheel Horse equipment.

In your area, it may be worth much more.   Look on your local for sale sites to get an estimate in your area.

I would not recommend parting out any Wheel Horse tractor or implement that is in excellent condition.

my experience is New England is lower market $$ value than CT or NY - - and then Pa is more a mirror of NE prices -- it seems to depend on Pa being higher WH supply density .... and NE being less dense population thus less demand -- i have no empirical evidence just a sense of what i have seen past couple of yrs here on RS and Facebook - the drive time of a hungry buyer can influence value -- especially for a nice clean tractor or attachment people will drive further for very clean piece - - but with gas prices for travel being so costly people will factor travel time and gas cost into the the payout for the actual piece - - being in NH you really are likely limited to people only in NE radius - unlikely people will do 8 hr round trip and 80-100 $$ gas up to NE for just a mower unless you are gving it away??????

First, I'd like to thank the members that responded to my post.

I guess I over valued the deck by comparing it to the deck I had to buy for my Work Horse. The Work Horse model has been a long time gone, so I was happy to find a nice deck within a 2 hr. drive.

I'll probably either keep it of drop it on the for sale page for a price in that range.

As an aside, that old Work Horse is just that! I've been mowing with it (2 acres) since I bought it in a yard sale in '96.

As I said, I did have to buy a deck, as the original rusted out.

I also use it to skid logs out of the woods every year. I run a set of cut down car chains on it and it's a beast!

Glad to be a member and hope to be able to contribute to the knowledge here.

Just curious,  why wouldn't you want to mow the two acres with a 48" deck on the 520.     If the blower is a single stage, It's about a 15 minute change over.

I'm not sure for a 2 stage, but it would be more.         What engine is in the Work Horse?

The 2 acres is broken up, not one big field.( and not all grass, LOL) The blower is a 2 stage and a big PITA to change over. I like to keep the Work Horse for general yard stuff. Deck and snow blade is easy on and off .

It's an 1800 GT. 18 HP Briggs twin.
