stolmar 35 #1 Posted February 11, 2023 A. Gentleman up here in Canada has a 633 up for sale. I did not know they made a 633. By following the literature , I thought it should be a 603 or a 653. Can someone explain the 633 to me. I was reading "straight from the horse's mouth" and a 633 is actually in the back of the book.

Racinbob 11,084 #3 Posted February 11, 2023 (edited) From what I see in the 63 brochure the 603 had the funky steering wheel, recoil start and the older style front axle (screams using up leftover parts). The 633 and 653 had the newer front axle with the 653 being electric start and the 633 recoil. Edited February 11, 2023 by Racinbob 3
953 nut 55,282 #4 Posted February 11, 2023 Yes, the Ponds were big proponents of making up a model number to identify units that had a short run using up leftover parts. The 1045 is one of my favorites. 2

In 1963 the 603 was a very base model with a 6hp pull start Tecumseh engine. The 653 came with a 6hp electric start Tecumseh engine. The 633 came with a 6hp pull start Kohler. Looking through the different models most tractor under 7hp were equipped with a Tecumseh engine, with the exception of some 4hp models and the 633. It has been my theory that got a deal on some Kohler K141's and installed them in the 653 chassis. Then relabeled the tractor as a 633. I believe that the 603 & the 633 had the lowest production numbers in 1963. 4
Lane Ranger 10,968 #6 Posted February 13, 2023 My brother owns a 633 which is a nice 1963 Wheel Horse. I used it several years to plow snow with at my house in Greencastle , Indiana. The six hp Kohler recoil start motor, the metal tool box (Where the battery for an electric start would normally be) and front aluminum gas tank are features of this tractor. I used a front reel mower and a snowplow on it and it was great for these functions! 2 4

stolmar 35 #8 Posted February 14, 2023 Thank you gentlemen for all the good information, @953 nut I never thought about the 1045. Good example of numbers being used that mean nothing, I seen the ad that read "1964 wheel horse 633" so I corrected him only to see it in the back of the book. Texted him back to apologize. Turns out that it is a pretty complete restored unit.
