I'm sure all of those metal shavings and grinder wheel bits were good for his tootsies. Goes to show you how people with enough intelligence to make an engine out of a compressor have zero common sense. 2

Pullstart 62,848 #11 Posted February 10, 2023 My point, is I wonder if Rudolph Diesel, or Henry Ford, or the Wright Brothers may have had too much time on their hands in their neighbor’s, or family’s eyes. This man has more creativity in his earwax than I do in my head. Yet, there are comments deciding that he should be doing something more valuable. To some, our GT hobby as a whole would indicate we have too much time on our hands. If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the shop, making my creations out of my visions.

I will add that those you mentioned (and many, many others, of course) had goals beyond “because I can".
Pullstart 62,848 #13 Posted February 10, 2023 Maybe that guy had to build this. Maybe it was a school project, or just to learn things. I my be wrong that he is not from the US. I think many other nations are more resourceful than we have become, because they don’t have a choice.

SylvanLakeWH 25,553 #15 Posted February 11, 2023 (edited) Beyond pure entertainment, watching that guy's video had me in awe... @Pullstart, your posts are typically the same for me... I always learn something... Including some interesting fashion ideas... Edit: I got a lot of "Why???" comments when I built the SL&WHN RR out of things headed to the dump... never from any kids (always want rides) or my recently deceased Dad (could and would fix anything)... interesting... Handy Don 12,217 #16 Posted February 11, 2023 I’m going to answer my own question after watching the end of the video: "to learn some things applicable to other situations and to share those learnings with others" (as @Pullstart noted). The “learn something” shirt was a tipoff. Clearly, though, he already knew A LOT (My guess? He’s repaired a lot of motor scooters and motorcycles) - the non-carb fuel vapor intake! - making a chain sprocket - calculating the ignition angle (plus no-points ignition) - manual “compression release” on startup - drill-as-starter
Pullstart 62,848 #18 Posted February 11, 2023 @Handy Don that Fuel vapor system was pretty awesome. He was cutting the tubes, and I thought to myself… I don’t think that tube is long enough!
