If there is no spark, I cut the wire that goes to the points and install a solid state coil. Never worry about points again. Yeah and the magnetron conversion coil used to run $50+ and customers never wanted to pay that vs pay to pull the flywheel and file/swap points. Tecumseh took it further by putting the coil there too. Ive avoided owning older briggs..i simply do not consider them an engine worth dealing with, at the simplicity dealer I worked for we always had the old iron briggs coming in in older tractors, the long rod would snap high if it ran even remotely fast and beat the engine up..and the updraft carbs...fun. Achto 27,570 #27 Posted February 18, 2023 Solved my engine issue. I purchased a "good running" I/C engine from Ebay. Hooked it up to an IV bottle, ran some jumper cable to it and gave it a bench test run. Surprisingly the seller was correct, it is a GOOD running engine. Happy boy!!! I transferred the needed accessories from my old engine to the new/used engine and it is ready to put back into my Swisher. The one and only thing that will not work will be the pull start. The crank shaft on the new engine is not designed to accommodate a recoil pull start. No big deal as the electric start works well. I will still need to install the pull start as it serves as a belt guard for the upper pulley the drives the tractor. One project close to completion.
