pfrederi 17,738 #5 Posted February 8, 2023 Firing up the 40 yr old M-35 at 6 below you had to use the preheater. Basically an internal blowtorch that blew into the intake manifold. Problem at F tCarson 5,500 feet the air was thin the preheater burned off too much oxygen wouldn't start while it was running. Manual said do not operate preheater with out cranking engine so you cranked away then shut off the preheater and hoped the batteries were holding up. A beautiful truck. @Rob J. i do like them air starts in fact my profile pic freightliner flt64 we almost bought was an air start but it had a air tank leak and my dad didnt want a truck it takes maybe 2 hrs by a compresser to start and have it take longer cuz it leaks so that and the cab interior shape detoured us from buying it. that made me sad but theres more coe's out there.
