SPINJIM 1,981 #3 Posted February 6, 2023 That's exactly why I'm trying to either downsize or finish all of my projects this year. I don't want to leave it all for my children to have to clean out, or sell for pennies on the dollar. Sincerely, an 80 year-old collector. 3
ri702bill 8,317 #4 Posted February 6, 2023 That rear axle looks like a later model Ranger 8.8 solid axle - a popular swap. That cast aluminum rear cover (made to look like a quickie) is probably aftermarket - A plus for the added oil capacity - a true bonus IF if has a pipe plug drain at the bottom. Deduct ALL bonus points if it does not properly distribute the fluid inside as originally intended. (look at the inverted raised Vee shape on an old GM 12 bolt cover - it was functional).

I have sold a couple of bigger projects and need to thin the herd a bit. Not something I want to do but know I should do.
SylvanLakeWH 25,552 #6 Posted February 7, 2023 Cool car... I was literally just talking about "Swedish Death Cleaning" with a neighbor while Mrs Sylvan and I were out for a walk tonight... Never heard it called that (it's actually a book)... basically, deal with your stuff so your kids don't have to... I've had that talk with Mrs Sylvan regarding the 's... she of course wants no part of such talk, as we, like the 's, will live forever in marital bliss... but per chance something happens, there's a member or two on here who will be getting a call to take over the SL&WHN RR, all accompanying accouterments, duties and responsibilities, along with obligatory rides for "The Littles" for the foreseeable future... hhhmmm...

I understand the logic of wanting to take care of one's own possessions before one's passing. I'm not necessarily in disagreement per se but I've come to the belief over the last few years that we SHOULD enjoy what we have while we're alive and able to do just that. Our collections, habits, hobbies, things that make us joyful as an individual absolutely should NOT be liquidated before we're mentally or physically unable to enjoy them. It's your "stuff". You went and got it. You built it. You amassed the collection. Be happy with it in your own life. The next folks down the line will either enjoy, or not, and that's ok. We're all different folks.

I was talking about that very book and this business just this morning, too. What’s next, a plate of shrimp? 1

Oh i'll enjoy up to the end... I'm talking about after I move on... My hope is to still be giving rides when i'm 94, like my Dad on his last train ride...
