White tailed deer color anomaly

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

Every winter we have a small herd of deer that gravitate to our backyard area and the woods immediately behind us.

Drives the dog nuts which in turn drives us nuts but the deer are nice to watch.

Colors can vary a little like many animals but this year we have a VERY dark one hanging out.

This is by a long shot the blackest brown deer I've ever seen.

I'm NO expert, but it looks a tad too plump in the rump to be a deer ......

In general, the deer are darker in the colder climates.  Something about dark colors absorbing heat and light colors reflecting heat.

Individual deer color can vary from black to white for several reasons.
