Pullstart 62,843 #1 Posted January 30, 2023 I have popped a rabbit here and there. I’m beginning to love the different ways to cook it! Right outside the house, they have no plans to quit coming around I see! 3

This reminds me of a story: Years ago my oldest brother brought a rabbit home for Mom to cook. This was not out of the ordinary. It was a good sized rabbit. Back then Mom cooked game in a pressure cooker to help tenderize it. When it was done she pulled it out and it looked like a stringy old mop head. Yep it was a 'Jack Rabbit" not a cotton tail rabbit The dogs ate well that night. We had sandwiches. 1
Roger R 446 #8 Posted January 30, 2023 When fixed properly, no doubt some of the best game meat ever. My mother had a recipe my Dad brought from Germany (In German and now long lost) which was the greatest as I recall. Fried in a spiced cream souse. Put many a rabbit in the pan with that, when growing up. 2

We are still Mommy and Daddy, she is still our kid. The food there, it has no comparison to anything here. We are planning on raising geese, mainly because we need her to come cook us a fest of a meal, that being the main dish!

As I recall the name was something like "Haas 'n Peffer" Which my Dad said translated to something like "Spiced Rabbit"
Pullstart 62,843 #12 Posted January 30, 2023 Oh yeah, I’ve heard of it. I’ll see if I can find a good ole authentic recipe…

I recall my Aunt (my Father's sister) making that when I was young. Both are sadly gone, the rabbits live on.... I DO miss the warm German Potato salad with vinegar and sugar my Father would make in the summertime. He installed a 12" thru the wall fan with automatic closing cover in the kitchen like a restaurant would have; it faced the house next door, only about 30 feet away. The next door neighbor married a "Domestic Princess" - had the cleanest stove on the street, she NEVER cooked. Dad would get the fan going when frying fish or making the potato salad, the phone would ring. It was George next door, constructively griping that the smell was killing him!! Dad always offered a plate to go... 2

They live a long time and produce a bout an egg every other day for seven months.

Pullstart 62,843 #20 Posted February 6, 2023 We were away from the house all weekend. Cats stayed inside and rabbits were running everywhere last night! Today, not much different. I could easily have nabbed my limit of 5. I popped 3 in about 5 minutes and called it enough for a stew meal. Time to clean and salt bath! 2
