@Horse Newbie  you did very well , would love to be on that recovery ! from that paint oil soak to the balance gears , would also run that in on heavily treated fuel in a separate gallon jug. you will have lots of advise and information . had to put on a bib while I  was checking it out . glad for you , pete

Hey Tim, I don't think you want to salvage that IMO. IMG_0502.jpg.be9b25a7db2cc445fcc1914886e9d074.jpgI know this might look a bit like scrap metal :D but it's actually pretty decent. I think it's from a b-100, I can't remember but I think it would work for you. The spindles are decent (not like NOS) and I can look around and maybe come up with a wheel. I'm a bit north of you but it's yours if you want it.

@ineedanother,

Here is some pics of the front wheel spindles on my C-160…

spindle length = 4.25”

spindle diameter = .75”

spindle height through axle end(upright) = 3.25”

depth/ length of wheel hub/ center = 3.5”

Let me know if the spindles you have are the ones I need.

Those dimensions are typical. I'm pretty sure I have something here that will get you rolling again. I'll be back at the shop tomorrow and will confirm.

Replacement Packard 56 wire terminals can be purchased at Del City, they will snap right into the housings you have and are superior to any individual spade terminals you could buy. These are topnotch material and hold tight. they are the same as was used at the factory. Crimp them to your new wire and then solder them.

So I started poking around a little bit with the 1977 (I think) C-160…

I noticed ( after she was on the truck) that the front wheel bearings were beyond shot…

Take a look at the bottom of the front right spindle. I don’t know if I’ll JB Weld it or try to acquire more spindles.
I have some cheap China bearings I will throw in there for now, just so I can roll her, but first order of business is check the health of the Kohler and get these fried wires fixed…

Time to go with trailer wheels, spindles and hubs. There isn't a way to fix those wheels they won't hold a bearing tight and will destroy another set of spindles.

@Lee1977  found that firming up those bearings and related areas to tougher lubrication , has prevented galling  / scoring to movement areas . very solid / smooth . washer up that lateral / side bearing play , thats the killer to bearings . when they shuck / slide impact , side to side , that is their weakest point . washers eliminate that . since doing that to my horses , there is no  bearing issues . when I  grease the front end its off the ground for better grease coverage , and you can verify how it feels for  function . bearings fail when they are out of their strong point  and grease that will not hold in place. only a suggestion , pete

@Horse Newbie

Have you gotten to try to put new bearings in those wheels?

I had the same thought as Lee.

I'm wondering if the hole in those wheels is worn so badly that they won't hold a bearing for any reason.

@ebinmaine  as you know chinese junk , barely  makes anything right . lube/ and lateral firming helps a lot , also better if wheel / tire can slide rather than grip ground for less lateral loading , pete

Mine was not that bad on my C-120, It was only 12 years old at the time, but it destroyed the spindle. I also had a bad hub on my  1989 520 when I got it the bearing was loose, but the spindle was still good.  I used the good wheel came off my C-120.

Hey Tim, what I have should work fine. The spindles aren't as long because no extra length is needed beyond the hub for a washer and cotter pin but everything else looks right. You can have them both so you have bolts on both and not one with a bolt and one with a cotter pin. PM your address and I'll get them shipped off as soon as I can.

Based on your measurements, I think worst case scenario you might have to grind a bit from the top of the axle to slide the clip on but I think you'll be good.

First thing I need to do is get an ignition switch and I need a wiring diagram for a 1977 C-160.

Model # 71-16K801-1994

Can someone help me out with a wiring diagram.

I don’t mind trying to find it on here but I struggle trying to do it on this phone…

Thanks…

Switch number should be a 103990.

I've had poor luck with "cheap"  switches.

Absolutely understand that.

As you're well aware the experience on many sites is different from PC or laptop to a phone.

I'm almost always on my phone as well.

For the diagram maybe @gwest_ca can help.

I seen part of a number on the side of the switch that began with 103.

I will clean it and get the complete number.

I was looking on Parts Tree… do you think they have decent switches ?

They might but I've never used them because they charge for freight.

fleeeBay would likely have one.

Also possibly a local parts store.

Several different brands are decent.  Echlin. Standard. BWD.  Cole Hersee.
