Tig welding question

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Miller Mig/gas wire welder that has developed a problem that caused the Argon mix to not function. I have been using it with flux wire and that suits me OK.

I have 'coveted' a Tig welder for some time and with the prices having dropped dramatically and the cheaper units getting some pretty favorable reviews, I would like to give it a go. In researching I find that many/most? of these units will come with everything to get started except the Argon bottle/gauge ..... which I have both of on the Mig unit not being used.

So, heres my question -- Can I empty my bottle with Argon 25/75 mix and have it filled with the necessary 100% Argon???

While I'm here, any thoughts on one of these ---- MANY cheaper tig units. I'm getting cross eyed looking a how many there are in the $200/400 range with every Utuber saying XX model is the best!

At least around here in NY you usually exchange your empty bottle for a full one. You don't sit and wait for your bottle to be filled. Call your welding gas supplier. They would probably let you swap your empty bottle for a full 100% argon one and you pay the price on a full argon bottle. Tanks are the same. Maybe painted different and possibly the fitting
