Tire questions

I was going to put on a set of 23x10.50x12 AG tires, but I may just use these 24x12x12 turf tires instead.I have the 8.5 inch wide rims from a 520.I want to just have one set of rims and tires for it.

Will AG tires tear up your grass while mowing?

Will these big turf tires do OK in loose dirt, while roto tilling or what ever?

Does it look funny with that much tire hanging out?

If you had only one set of rear tires which would it be,AG's or turf?

I either have to take the one tire back and order AG's or just get one more turf tire.

Here it is with the 23x9.50x12 Dico's

Here's one 24x12x12 turf tire :thumbs2:

That tire looks huge on there. IMHO, way too much hanging out :thumbs2: . I would go with the ags.

Those tires do look huge, but look good. I am having AGs mounted for my 416-8. I will have to let you know if they tear up the lawn or not. I don't think they will unless you make fast sharp turns or dump the clutch.

I'll throw in another option and say I'd give some thought to 24-12-12 Carlisile AT101 Chevron/ags. There more of a flotation tire with a nice combination of both traction and easy on turf performance. :thumbs2: I used Steiner 4x4 turf tractors with a similar tire for 10 years and really liked them.

Yet another option are the ATV HD Field trax also used on Steiner and Ventac turf tractors.

I like AG's better myself, but they still will be hanging out there, the rims are 8.5 inches wide the old rims are 7 inches wide, both have the same back spacing. The old tires stuck out 3 inches the new one sticks out 4 3/4 inches,1 1/2 inches of that is the rim itself.

You mention tillling.... Will you ever use chains or need to? If you use the larger turfs, you may not have clearance for chains between the rubber and fender deck. Hard to tell without a side profile picture. There have been a couple short threads not too long ago about the difference between tires and what they provide for flotation versus traction. Here's a couple of quick threads.

The 24x12x12 turfs are about 1/2 inch shorter than the 23x8.50x12 AG's I have.

I don't use chains,but I think they would clear if I did.

What a difference in traction, there's one place in my ditch I couldn't cut before,I would get stuck,I went down in that part of the ditch and went too far in, the deck started plowing a furrow on the left side,so I stopped, and backed up a little,I let the clutch out a little too quick not only did she come out of the ditch, she did it with the front wheels in the air.The extra track width is nice also,no more leaning to the uphill side while in the ditch,I even leaned to the down hill side and the uphill tire stayed planted.

Here it is with both 24x12x12's on it.

I understand this is an old thread but it was the only one I could find with tire width discussion. I have hilly ground that I need the width to help prevent roll over. I want to go to a 10.5 width tire. Tires I seem to be able to buy in many places but I don't see any place to purchase the wheels. I'm sure my 8.5 wheel are too narrow. Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonas

Looks good with fat tires, Ted.

BTW, I haven't torn up my yard with the Ags I bought from you. I am in no hurry when cutting grass with my Wheel Horses!

Been using Ag tires for 20 years and never really worried about the yard cause it didn't do much to it. I worry more about the stripes than I do the tires tearing up the yard....

and what wheels do you have them on 8.5 or 9.5? Where did you get them?

Thanks a bunch!
