stevasaurus 22,904 #26 Posted July 22, 2009 thanks for all the comments and input genlelmen...you have given me much to think about. The diversaty of opinions is amazing and very appreciated. Makes me want to keep this one as is and buy another 702 for the restore. Linen...this does have the easier rear axle mount...there is a second blade (plow) at my mom's that I think fits this tractor. My dad loved to plow snow at night in the neighborhood...explains the reflectors...also have a set of chains for it. with all these opinions, i can't wait to post pics of the 502 and see what shakes with that horse. chompin' at the bit thanks guys and Buzz...no reason to apoligize...I never took it wrong. :ychain:
boovuc 1,090 #27 Posted July 23, 2009 I'll tell you what I think about what's stock and not stock. I don't care! That is a wonderful looking tractor. That is the tractor(s) I admired when I was a youngster. They were the tractors that old men mowed their grass with when I was young. That's the image of Wheel Horse I had when I bought my first used machine and the second and I'd die to have a round hood that ran and was in that condition. Every round-hood I've looked at over the past 5 years in mid-state PA that came up for sale were either already restored and too much money, fake restored for the same money or were more a critter refuge with iron oxide thrown in. I'd be smiling like a male weasel in a female dormatory for the perpetually in heat if I owned it! Great tractor Steve! :thumbs2:
linen beige 14 #28 Posted July 23, 2009 Steve, Those spindles do look right, but they've been end bored and tapped to allow bolting on the hubs. They originally just used snap rings. The current set up is probably stronger. I agree with the guys that are encouraging you to keep this one as it is in memory of your dad's efforts to personalize it. If you want a factory original 702 there are still plenty of candidates out there. This is the only one your dad outfitted this way.
