Is this winter??

Friday the 13th in January.  Just west of Chicago, we have had no plowable snow yet this year, a few days of below zero weather, most of the days have been above average...30's and 40's sometimes 50's.  It is being called the 6th warmest winter in history.  We had some ice during the cold spell around X-Mas, but that is all gone now.  It is a lot like March around here.  If we were to get some sun, I bet my grapes would start growing.  

   Winter ain't over yet...I know...but we are running out of the time when we get the real cold.  Forecast is still nice till the end of the month.  That is great for the gas bill, but I find myself taking the horses I have ready for snow around the block looking for snow.  Don't worry, I don't miss snow enough to move to Buffalo,   but it would be nice to move a little snow this year.  My ice fishing partner and I plan to go look for where the ice usually is and share some Bloody Mary's this next week.  We just need to go look for ice.  

   Have any of you guys used your blades yet??

Yup, I've used my blade this month.........to push some dirt on the paths in the woods. Officially, in South Bend, it's the warmest January on record. So far there hasn't been a January day where the high has been below freezing. Don’t get complacent though. We all WILL pay for this.

Had to plow my driveway once and it was mostly slush and water, another time just before Christmas had one drift across the parking area that was in the way. That's been it.

Plowed a couple times but moved a lot of gravel from the driveway to the lawn.  Sweepster is going to have  a big spring project.

I know I have fresh gas, charged and new batteries, I even have socks laid out for the event.  (I have not worn socks yet this year.)  On the other side, I heard they were talking  minus 80 degrees in Siberia.  That is where the cold has gone.  OMG...minus 80 degrees...that is to cold for snow.

@Racinbob  also did some dirt brush blade work on property line  , my  neighbor, if you can call him that , has so much totally unkept everything . looks more like a  dump .  house covered in mold , so much brush / trees in the yard   you can,t see into it . back half of the house  is rotting away  , back staircase  rotted off . his father used to keep it very nice and clean . son is just the opposite.  town has limits as to what they can do , pete

I’ve had a total of about 15-16” but it’s all gone now. When I moved to Michigan in 92 sleds we’re all the rage. I got a 4x4 quad instead. Some mocked me but I thought to ride the sled a few weeks out of the year was crazy. Now everyone has a 4x4 UTV/Atv of some sort and much fewer sleds. Got to go another 200 miles north if you really want to ride It’s gotten warmer ever since the mid 90’s here. But the summers are still just right. Pure Michigan

This is the first winter I can remember that we haven’t even had a trace of snow by now. I have a snowplowing business and only went out once the Friday before Christmas to do a little salt sanding after it rained and we had a flash freeze. My 417-A with a two stage blower, C160 with a blade, and C-141 8 speed with Sweepster C-48 rotary broom are collecting dust waiting to be put to work! I really don’t even like snow anymore but we all know that moving it with a Wheel Horse, be it blade, blower or broom is fun!!

You can't use them Don maybe best I just come...  best have that planter under lock and key tho...

Looks like next week it’ll start getting cold again.  We’ve had 40” or so this winter though, but I have been away and haven’t been able to enjoy any of it… then it melts before we get home.

Snowed last night and this morning. a whopping inch and a half. Started up the 953 and 857 just for the heck of it last week.

They got those Ice machine thingy's at most gas stations and Bags of ice in Walmart. They will keep the bloody Mary's cold.

So this is Wednesday, January 25, 2023...this is the day that "Back to the Future" went into the future.  This is also the 1st day this "winter" that I got to finally move 2" of slush with my 876.    

Just kidding about the "Back to the Future" thingy.

Last Friday we got 8"+ of snow. Fairly heavy. 

I ran the walk behind snowblower then Trina used her 867 to plow.  

 

Monday we got 14". 

Light fluffy stuff.  

She started to plow when it was maybe 10 to 12" deep. 

 

 

 

Worked ok as long as she took small " bites".  

I went out and got the snowblower in the fun.  

 

 

 

Now ... Tonight we're forecast for another 8 to 12 with a layer of sleet ice 🥶 rain 🌧️ on top of that.
