Hello All,

Happy New Year... not first WH with these and I don't understand what there purpose is.

B100 Auto with steering stops that absolutely kill the turning radius... WHY....

Yep there coming off PRONTO

Thanks

Tony

We had one come through our stable that had that one ONE side only.

I figured it was for a deck clearance issue..... ((??))

Never seen it on both sides though.

@Docwheelhorse  in addition  to the steering fix , that pto cone  has the oil stain look , how about the rest of it ?  that thing would look  very  water beading , even using   waste oil for a rub down ,  pete

You take those stops off and you just may wind the steering gear off of the fan gear.

It could also make the steering such that the tractor could jack-knife if going full speed and topple it over.

Most things are there for a reason, and it would be cheaper (for the factory) to not put them on.  :eusa-think:

Ok... well of the several hundred WH units I've had this is MAYBE the third that has these. Although all the front axles are cast with the bump... if its there for a reason somebody needs to tell me for what. I don't think it's to prevent jack knifes of flipping. After all you can't jack knife something with 4 tires and a fixed frame

I have 7, mid 70s  C Series right now. All long frames. I've had a 74 B80 which was a mid length frame.

That B may have been the one with the stopper....

I don't remember.

Does the B100 have a mid length frame or is it a long frame?

Would the length of frame be a consideration?

Is the B restricted for some reason that a C isn't?

Was there a mower deck on it?

Very interesting.....

Possibly that the steering could push past 90 and prevent smooth return is what @stevasaurus meant?  Not like a tractor trailer jackknifing.

I know what a jack-knife is, didn't know how else to say it.  Sorry I tried to help.  :notworthy:

Sorry... just looking for why? I don't really need to know... but it certainly is a curiosity. I guess maybe a 42" deck might end up with front wheels hitting if turned far enough as the frame is what? 1" shorter than a long frame?

The fan gear will usually hit the frame on each side. Never seen a steering gear go past the end on the fan gear before this happens. Course I've been proven wrong before.

The front of the frame at the portion forward of the foot step holding rod is shorter. Actual numbers I'm not sure of. Your guess seems about right.

I’m going to have to look on Alex’s B-100 auto tomorrow. I don’t recall seeing them but I certainly didn’t look close. Only thing I can think of and it’s been stated above a few times is so the tires wouldn’t hit a deck.

Not positive. Haven’t run the numbers on it yet. If it’s even got them.

I looked while I was in the garage. @WheelHorse_Kid’s B-100 has no stops on it. My bronco 14 and Aiden’s 856 either. I swear I saw one with them around here somewhere. Guess I gotta venture out back at some point.

I just looked it up and learned something. It’s a 1975 and according to the serial number look up on here that was the only year they built a B-100 auto

My 74 B80 has them on both sides as well.I took them off ,bad idea as it caused clearance issues not to mention instability especially on hills.I don't know about other models though.
