Pullstart 62,905 #1 Posted January 6, 2023 The day started with me being 35 cents up, for cleaning out the pump in our laundry mo-chine. It’s a job I‘ve done enough, that I have a map of which screws to remove off the back panel, and which way the clips slide. Some screws remain (where there are cut outs, but sometimes in the dark abyss of the rear of the laundry, any guide is a good one) to hold cross braces in place. I noticed the dispenser drop tube for fabric softener was dripping, so I decided to do some more tearing apart for cleaning aide. Well, the dispenser drum decided to snap instead of letting a feed hose loose. I’m finding myself with a not available / back ordered part, and am struggling with the idea of $1,200 for a wash machine and pedestal base because of it. The way I see, is a few options. 1) pony up and replace this 7 year old appliance with yet another sub-par wash machine 2) keep looking for that $200 piece of plastic, pay for shipping and wait on our courier service to deliver it 3) wait for the local appliance shops to call back with the same news as #2, but more money for their service 4) attempt a repair and hope it doesn’t burst. It’s on the low pressure side of a water solenoid. It just flushes the detergent, bleach, or fabric softener through the dispenser. thoughts? stevasaurus 22,762 #2 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) Plug it and use the new powdered detergents for front loaders. You throw in a small scoop in with the clothes. Pullstart 62,905 #6 Posted January 6, 2023 Good news-ish. The local appliance shop called back and we talked things over. Come to find out, my thoughts and plans to tee the lines together sounded good to him. I took the box out and removed the lid. I am soaking it in bleach water to cleanse it of any grime and slime before assembling it again. A couple weeks back I replaced the circulator pump on a 20 yo dishwasher (thankfully the drain pump is separate, avoiding the need for an extra solenoid and crazy plumbing). I was in dread of applying too much force to some part made of unobtanium as I dis- and re-assembled it. Luck shone on me, though, and it’s together and working smoothly again. A seal had hardened allowing water to seep into the motor bearing. $70 for the assembly as its components are “unserviceable”. squonk 41,137 #11 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) We had a POJ Maytag Bravos top loader for about 10 years. Never liked how it rinsed. Wound clothing into knots. Had to replace a fill solenoid about 3 years ago. It developed a small leak on big loads and got a growling noise. A week before Christmas I was trying to figure out what to get the wife and that growl finally put me over the edge. Went to Lowes and bought a front loader on sale for $700. 3 days later it's delivered. I get home and there is no owner's manual. WHX?? 48,825 #12 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) How did the coins get past the inlet screen? I've laundered plenty of money but it was just always laying on the bottom of the drum. I have a Speed Queen top loader, my good friend has a Maytag top loader. They are the exact same machine with different decals on the control panel, and both made at Alliance Laundry in Ripon WI.
