Once the national chicken flock gets rebuilt, what do you think the chances for egg prices to return to 'normal' are?

ZERO! If the prices of feed for poultry, livestock also fertilizer are going up over there as here, I doubt we'll see 'normal' again.

I expect the prices will recede to about halfway between normal and crazy.

When fuel prices return to levels of two years ago, then prices of any goods have a chance to return to reasonable levels.  Yes, I know, fat chance that will happen!

It is called supply and demand.  In 2014-15 the price came back to the pre-bird flue price. When you have an abundance of any perishable product you can't hold it hostage, you need to sell at the price the market dictates. Feed cost and transportation costs had already driven the price of eggs up prior to the bird flue.

A very good friend of mine has a farm that has probably a couple of hundred chickens. It used to be thousands. I remember as a kid cleaning the coops and having my eyes burning and nose running!  No machinery, just pitch forks to load the manure spreader. It’s too bad most kids these days won’t get to enjoy such things!! Anyway, not too long ago I was at his farm stand which is like a little store and asked him why his eggs were so expensive. He said I’ll gladly show you my feed bill and you’ll understand why!
