GAJoe 842 #1 Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) FYI Just in case someone else has a deck spindle with the components "brown welded" as mine did. I'm force feeding Kroil using a rubber tip that came with my grease gun with an extra long red spray can tube that I saved from a SeaFoam treatment kit. I removed the zerk grease fitting and cleaned out the grease in the shaft with Q-Tips. I put the tip to the zerk hole and the Kroil came bublin' up around the shaft. peter lena 8,589 #3 Posted January 2, 2023 @GAJoe likin that kroil ! terrific creeping action , also makes a terrific rustproofing spray base creep coating , couple of days out , you notice an oil film on lower seam areas , thats what you want , then over coat it with lubriplate open gear shield , bombproof rustproofing . this what I do to my decks , no rust / rot , sun bake breaks the cycle , pete
peter lena 8,589 #4 Posted January 3, 2023 @GAJoe scary looking at your approach to a rusted issue , we are sharing the same thought process ? nice to be on the same page , greasy , pete 1

I've got a couple of old decks I need to try that on. Is Kroil a lot better than PB Blaster? Pretty sure they're both better than WD-40 for breaking down existing rust. I'd like to hear opinions on these products. Does one work better than another when also applying intense heat (MAPP, etc.)?

I still have a can of PB Blaster in the shop that I haven't picked up after using Kroil. 2

Does one work better than another when also applying intense heat (MAPP, etc.)? I gave the pulley hubs a couple good soakings and only one of the three resisted the Wonder Bar lift slightly, but did come off without a fight. Two of the shafts came out easily and I let the third soak a bit after the "force feed". I got as much of the grease out with Q-tips before doing the force feed. I knew that if the Kroil could get to the parts that the fight would be easier. Then I happened to think that the grease channels provided the Kroil a path to those parts. I just had to devise a method to get the Kroil through the grease channels. If the grease has gotten old and hard it probably wouldn't move out of the way. Hey, I noticed that you're in Eastanollee GA - we may be somewhat "neighbors" in the not too distant future (maybe about 2 years from now). Wife and I are looking at places in and around Walhalla, SC. We both love it around there. Her sister from Atlanta got married at Toccoa Falls a few years ago.

Things are starting to grow around here since the huge SK Battery plant got built in Commerce, GA. Another international company is going to build a facility to recycle automotive Lithium batteries near us. Toccoa is getting a Chick-Fil-A even. Interesting how o one wanted Nuclear fuel processing facilities near then. But Lithium battery manufacturing and reprocessing businesses are desirable. Both can go BOOM

OoPEZoO 513 #15 Posted January 4, 2023 I'll say this about Kroil......my grandfather was a machinist, and also owned his own excavating business for pretty much his entire life. Kroil was the ONLY thing you ever found in his shop for jobs like this. He owned and repaired all of his own heavy equipment, most of it old and rusty. After he passed away about 10yrs ago, we were cleaning out the shop and I helped myself to a case of the Kroil stacked in the corner........FAR AND AWAY THE BEST penetrating oil I've ever used and all I will ever buy. It also works fantastic as a cutting fluid on the drill press. I also use it to treat my welding table every few months. The spatter just balls up and rolls across the table instead of sticking. I'm 100% sold on the stuff and will echo that I also have PB blaster and WD on the shelf, they just collect dust 1
peter lena 8,589 #16 Posted January 5, 2023 @OoPEZoO if you gave a new truck , any brand , a body spray with kroil , especially under cab and at fender well openings , in a day all those areas would be wet with creeping kroil , then over spray with open gear oil , it would follow the kroil into the tight spots , stop rust / rot before it starts . cannot beat a penetrant like kroil , in doors , tailgate , frame cross channel's . done that on my stuff for years , not a speck of rust/ rot . simple / easy , pete 1
