Should be fine - slightly taller - what is the width of the rims you have??

Slightly taller by number, but probably the same or shorter physically…

Likely a 12x6 or so.  It’ll be fine :handgestures-thumbupright:

Should be a 12x7 wheel and 23x8.50's will work perfect. Carlyle seems to run true to number, but many others are way smaller than what is on the sidewall.

Not so sure guys.  My 310-8 had the 22" tires.  The rims were only 5".  Measure the length of the yellow line between two blue ones.  1"  means a 5" rim  3" is a 7" You can mount the 8.50 but it will be bulgy!!

you might be correct on the rim width v. the "yellow line"  However I found that over the years, WH changed the position where the center spider was welded to the rim.  The rim width was the same at 7 inches, just the offset was different.

Paul most 6-12’s were on 4” or 5” wide wheels.  I’m not doubting that your 310 had them, but I find it hard to believe they were on it when built.  Here are some wheels, a 5” and 7”.  The 5” isn’t the BEST example, it’s riddled with rust holes and no valve stem so I couldn’t bead the tire.

Wheels measured inside the lip, where the bead mounts.  Tire used is an old Carlisle 23x8.50-12

Wheel width is measured at the lip (red line) anyway.  Yeah, the yellow line doesn’t mean anything really…

I was an engineer for 40 years in the steel wheel industry.  Rim width is measured between the tire side of the flanges - as @Pullstart demonstrated.  Measuring the width of the drop well from the disc flange is a quick and dirty way to estimate the rim width - IF you know the other reference points on that family of wheels.

If 22x9-12's were mounted previously, going to a 23-8.5 x 12 will not be a problem on that same wheel.  You will get about 1" more diameter, but loose 1/2" section width in the tire (slightly narrower tread width).

Parts manual does show 5" rims for some 308 310 312 depending on  the year (and what WH had left over from previous years maybe:P)

Backset on the 5" rims was 1-3/8 just like the 7 Inch rims.

Note difference on this 7" rim

I was just trying to give a quick way of making sure he didn't have eh narrow rims....with out demounting and measuring.

Being familiar with some of your project stories, Yep, if you mount them, you'll have some problems.   :ychain:

If stock is 9" wide, it would be less bulgy than stock. My 1985 310-8 had 7" wide wheels on it.

Too bad you don't have the wider rims. I have a pair of brand new Carlisle 10.50 turfs I'd give you the Waldo deal on.

If the 23" tall tires are Deestone Tires be aware that they tend to be undersized. Their 23" may not even be as tall as the 22" tires you are replacing.

I've never seen a 312 with less then 7" wide rear rims.  Thge 22x9x12 tire3 hat came on my 312 were wider then the 23x8.5x12.
