c-series don 8,718 #1 Posted December 14, 2022 My neighbor who is in his 80’s bought this bronco 14 brand new. The other day he drove it probably 3/4 of a mile to my house in the pouring rain. Reminded me of the Gordon’s fisherman in his full yellow rain gear ! He brought it over and asked me if I could figure out why it’s not charging ( I may need help with that?) and asked if I could find a replacement electric clutch as his is shot. I’ll be putting an add in the wanted section here. I had my loader out the other day to move and power wash some blade decks, so I took a few pictures. First thing to check is ALL GROUND CONNECTIONS. After that look at the ammeter. If it's dead the circuit is open so nothing flows through it. If you need an ammeter lemme know. I have this on a parts tractor, all I know about it is it spins, wires look good, & I'll never use it. You can have it for shipping... I would never ever take a dime from him, as this is what I (oh and we ) love to do. Plus he’s just a genuinely nice guy. He really loves his tractor and I’m honored that he entrusts me to fix it. I was wondering the same thing, I can pull it tomorrow & look at the windings & clutch disk. It might be just a bad connection, this poor girl sat out in the rain for 10 years I was told. Bill D 1,922 #10 Posted December 14, 2022 The charging issue may be affecting the clutch operation. What exactly is shot on his clutch? How is the loader even working if the clutch is shot? What does the clutch coil read on an ohm meter? Also check the engine stator for continuity with the engine off. AC voltage should read about 40 volts with engine running. You should have about 14 VDC on the B terminal on the voltage regulator. Hopefully the flywheel hasn't lost a magnet. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

daveoman1966 3,752 #12 Posted December 14, 2022 Here is the RIGHT way to remove that Electric PTO clutch. DO NOT use any kind of wheel or hub puller...guaranteed FUBAR. Even though it appears to be shot, it MAY be saved. That is a pre-73 E-PTO and the thread in the middle of it I think is 7/8" x 9tpi. 953 nut 55,284 #13 Posted December 14, 2022 For the charging issue locate the voltage regulator and do a couple voltage checks. With the key ON and engine not running there should be full battery voltage at the B+ terminal. If it is not there you will need to find the open circuit, perhaps a fuse. With the engine running at half to full throttle you should should read 36 Volts AC between the two outer terminals. The Kohler manual in our reference section will be helpful. This is what she looks like, the bearings & pulleys on the PTO seem okay, I'm going to have to soak the magnet with penatrant to see if I can get the cover off to get at the windings. Blasterdad 2,692 #20 Posted December 31, 2022 I got the cover off tonight, the black wire was broken at the winding connection, coil windings seem okay, getting a steady reading of 3.1 ohms. I can see the balls ready to fall out just looking at it, so I assume the bearing is shot. Plus it makes a heck of a noise when running and not engaged. I’ll gladly compensate you for your time and the clutch if you can fix yours. Does anyone know why it’s not bolted solid and has a pin with a cotter pin to keep it from spinning? I've always suspected that the play in the housing-to-bracket connection was to prevent stress on the housing-to-shaft bearing that a misaligned “bolt on” could easily cause.
