Switching to a pedal motion control puts that on a foot,

Steering stays with one hand.

The trick (as I think @ebinmaine has wondered) is how to combine the plow's lift and angle controls into a gloved or mittened one hand operation. I suspect the coolest would be a joystick lever with a button--fore/aft for lift, side-to-side for angle, and the button for releasing the angle lock*.

* lock only needed if using manual or electric actuator-enabled movement--hydraulic self-locks

I certainly have processed the thought more than once of putting the motion control on my right foot. May or may not eventually get there.

You bring up angle control.

After I get done building this C-160 Automatic I'll have an extra valve, hoses, and cylinder. Maybe a future project there....

Anytime I get off the tractor, I take it out of "gear"

Does that still allow it to float a little?

This truck was a blast to operate.  Felt like a tractor!

This truck was a little more complicated.

Yeah. I'm thinking of something along the lines of the newer joystick loader controls--one lever handles both lift and curl.

And on a gear-reduction steering tractor, a suicide knob makes for easy one-handed steering

Note also that on your plow truck, forward and reverse and braking all come into play--trickier than simple pedal motion control on a WH. :)

I had a 73 no-name 12hp Auto with the Motion control lever in the center of the hoodstand...like yours is. Its a PITA to operate...just awkward.

So, after doin' a little digging, I was able to REMOVE that center lever and replace it with a right SIDE control lever.  I actuall did this with mine and for a friends 16hp Auto.  It involves: 1)pull out the original lever with friction components. 2)transfer those friction parts to the new side-control lever. 3)...MAYBE---   Trim a small slot out of the belt cover to accommodate the vertical side lever. 4)reinstall the new side lever, with fiction parts, in exactly the same place as the original lever.  DONE.  You'll need a side lever like this:  I have two of them.

you MAY even consider swapping out the ENTIRE Hoodstand.

NOTE the the side control lever is a WELDED assembly with the square BOX containing the friction parts.

This is an excellent post!

I agree about the awkward position, my Dad had a No Name 16 Auto with a snowblower on it. Lots of hand motion & switching hands to operate the motion control & lift lever.

I have a No Name 12 Auto I've considered swiching to a side control as I have all the parts to do so, but I also like the "uniqueness" of it so I decided to leave it original.

I only use it to pull the cart around the yard so it"s not that bad, it's my dedicated cart horse so to speak, or I just get her out to run her. :)

( It's got the wrong sticker on the hood & different PTO but she is a '73 No Name Auto ).

When I bought my 14 Automatic, it had an extension on the motion control lever. It did make it a little easier to use, But it had a fatal flaw,. In neutral, it was tight up against me, so I couldn't go into reverse. Maybe the guy who installed it was small. I certainly am not.

Great post. Here’s my 73 auto no name.It originally had the console shift. It’s was a pia to operate from the center.

It can be easily swapped out as @daveoman1966 pointed out.

I received the parts from AZ tractor and dave walked me through it.took me about a hr to swap out.
