Tall chute single stage question

Recommended Posts

Cee245

Hello,

I have a tall chute 42" single stage blower. I can't read the model number so I couldn't look up manual etc.

I can see where there is a plate and or rod missing.... but Does anyone have a pic or anything to show what I'm missing in the pic?

I temporarily put a wire on it so it doesn't flop around.

Thanks

Hey, that blower looks familiar.      The PO had a throttle cable attached where you have the wire.  A lever  on the console operated the chute deflector.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

You won't find this on any manual.

If you want to restore it to originalnal, remove the lever and rod and tighten the chute bolts to create enough friction to keep the deflector in position.

Haha, I was going to tag you Ed!

That is a great idea with a throttle cable. I think I'll try that when I get a chance. I'm pretty sure I have an extra on the shelf.

I ended up tightening the chute bolt to stop it from moving.  That wire didn't help much by itself.

I think this was my first trial and it didn't work.   The snow forcing the deflector to open bent the wire.

I changed it around so the deflector was pulling on the wire instead.

Thanks Ed.....I'll mess with this in the next few days, but with what I have, It looks like I'd use the throttle cable position coming from the left in some fashion.

I could install a couple eye bolts for the cable to run through back to where operator can reach since it'll have to have lots of play being secured to the moving chute and then install the control part on a panel.  I'll have to cut and shorten the cable a bit, but I think this can work decent enough.

Edit:  Ed, notice the position of the plate on the chute in my picture. The PO must have figured that would be better and I agree. What a smart guy he is...  lol 😀

Cory, I just realized this pic may show the chute control better.        Zoom in on the chute.    You can see I had the chute deflector and rotation control extended into the warm cab.

@Cee245  like the cable idea , ever think about adding  a spring to it for assist ? like having the spring pull it back to  enhance movement , of course lubricate the related movement areas .  did some time on my choke / throttle cable return spring idea , they work so easy its like smooth power assist ,  also super lubed , the new cable , so it works without effort , set up spring pull to CLOSE  both cables,  in use the spring pulls your intent with ease , pete

@peter lena,  haven't thought about a spring assist till now... I do have one of those cable lubricant devices that makes it easy to get lube through the entire cable and housing. It moves nice and smooth now...

Once I get to it, I'll update this to show if it works well or not.

@Ed Kennell, thanks for that pic... that is almost what I'm planning.  Only thing is I was going to run the cable on the other side of your routing(left from seat position.)

My thought is to keep it away from the belt side to avoid the cable getting caught in the belt.

@Cee245  when first experimenting with spring assist , it almost did not make sense to have as spring , pulling against  a lever start  point , but when you think about it , its always  assisting the end movement point , also use  SUPER LUBE   synthetic oil  , to all my cabling usage . hardware store bout $6 , detailing cable linkage function , now that I have doing it  , is the deal , amazing  functional ease , no binding , rusty , bound end point , let me know if I can help out in function  layout , oily pete

I Had made a little console on the right side of the hood stand that supported the chute rotator crank and switches for all the cab lights.   I just attached the chute deflector cable/lever to that same console so all controls were together.
