Sailman 1,291 #1 Posted December 10, 2022 I have enjoyed messing with my wheelhorse tractors but always admired the round hoods and wanted one for the grandkids. Passed on a couple for sale recently due to over priced and missing parts or wrong engines, etc. Just landed this 704 that appears to be quite original with parts intact including 7 HP pull start Kohler. It looks rough and is going to need some work but pull cord and recoil were intact and working, engine turns over easily and shifter goes into all gears ok and even feels like heavy fluid in the transmission. Got it home and cleaned up and shifter boot is even intact! Front tires are shot and left wheel may be past salvaging but rears look good and even holding air. Fellow passed and had dozens of tractors all over the property his family is now selling. Has a couple more wheelhorses and bunch of Kohler motors. Nothing running. If I had more room I would be tempted.... I don't anticipate a restore job on the 704. I just get them running and use 'em! I know you all like pictures so here goes... First ones are after the wash job removing green stuff and first layer of dirt/rust. Later pictures are how she came. 7
Sailman 1,291 #2 Posted December 10, 2022 And now for the pics on how she came out of the yard. Had been under a shed but the roof had fallen in so no idea how long she was in the weather. 5

953 nut 55,324 #5 Posted December 10, 2022 You are going to have some happy grandkids, great find. I agree, leave it as is and just make it mechanically sound. 3

Pullstart 62,916 #8 Posted December 11, 2022 Looks good! I wasn’t a fan of the “new and improved” hood design over the 62’s and 63’s… but it’s growing on me!
SylvanLakeWH 25,602 #9 Posted December 11, 2022 Great find! Lucky kids... Lucky Grandpa... Don't know ages but may want to consider floor boards that isolate little feet from ground and the rear tires... easy to remove to keep original later on... 2 3

Ended up driving over his leg. Thankfully he was smart enough to shut it off on his own. He came crawling screaming. We ended up at the hospital. Leg was torn up but nothing broken or torn. He still has some scars from it and a weird little bump that he does like to show off to anyone that will look at it. Always tells them “this is from when I ran myself over”. So thankful he didn’t have any lasting injuries from it. Never through to put floor boards on. 1

Threw the blanket over it, it should be fine during these cold 60+ degree days and 40+ nights for the next two and a half months. Stay warm my friend. 1
