Pto replacement

Recommended Posts

I recieved a new pto “bell “ for my 520 pressed in the inner roller bearing and outer ball bearing sets… on the tractor it doesn’t spin as freely as I feel like it should … does it need to “break in” or did I perhaps do something to the inner roller bearing ?

Are the bearings seated all the way into the clutch bell?  I'm thinking the stub shaft on my clutches has a little bit of end play - maybe .030" to .060".

The last time I replaced the INNER BEARING, I pressed it in too far, and I had the same 'slight resistance' as you have. Having done that...too far in... 'twas nearly impossible to reach in...with a bearng puller... to 'hook' it a pull it back a little bit.

If it is pressed in too far, the bearing will tend to be toward the end of the crankshaft, rather than back toward the center of it.  IMHO:  Correct positioning would be to press the bearing in, just enough to tap the SEAL in behind it...no more.

Just my experience...

Is this area warped inward?
