ri702bill 8,347 #1 Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) I bought a pair of non-WH cast iron rear wheel weights from @stevebo this October - at 55 LBS each, they were better than the cement filled plastic ones I had. Seemed there was enough behind the weight to add a 10 inch diameter x 1" thick plate weight also. Hard to find 20 pound weights - not a commom size at all. Caught a Thanksgiving sale on the Jungle site - a pair of 10.1"" x 1.1" cast iron weights delivered for $45.00. Used an old 5" wide rim to use as a "window" for white spraypaint and to hold the transfer punch to leave a dimple mark at the 4 locations. Not bad, all measured 8-5/8" apart. Set one up at a time and drilled them for a 9/16" clearance hole. Luckily, the grade of cast iron on them was a decent close grain that machined easily. I decided to flycut the "as cast" inside mating surface of the 55 pounders so the new weights would sit flat - The grain structure of the big weights varied - typical of weights (some recycled Tugboat engine block bits in the mix, I'm sure). Assembled the sets and checked with the 5" rim - no issues fitting, but they now weight 75 LBS each - a handling device was needed and designed.... next post.
