Which chains for front ags?

Recommended Posts

Going to order some chains for the front tires and trying to decide which is the better choice for traction and steering with a 2 stage blower. 2 link ladder type with V bars or diamond type with twist link. 16x6.50-8s. I realize the diamond type typically are better for not getting in the grooves of the ag tires and helps with side to side sliding but I think the ladder type with being 2 link wouldn't be a problem with links being in the grooves as there would always be some on top of the ribs. Also the V bars would add some more bite than twist link and also probably resist side slide. What say y'all?

My experience shows me just when I think I've got the 2 link V bars tight they move again.

Look at what the pros use.   Loggers.  Skidders.

On a front axle with twisting motion of steering and adding heavy weight....

Diamond pattern chain.

Hands down.

They're more expensive.  Worth it.

Thanks @ebinmaine i do see that's what the log skidders tend to run. Bet there's a few of them in Maine too.

Neither,  #40 roller chain wrapped around the front tires. Steers like the carbides on a snowmobile.

#40 Roller chain will not work on an ag tire.

Diamond pattern or duo link.  (i use duo link on the big girls)
