Pullstart 62,837 #1 Posted December 9, 2022 Mice and rats can’t burp or fart. Who’dah thunk?
ri702bill 8,316 #2 Posted December 9, 2022 ... and the Rhode Island coastal version - Seagulls (aka "Skyrats") can never pass up a chunk of a clamcake. Now, if by chance, someone were to put half of an Alka-Seltzer inside the clamcake..... Seagulls can't burp. 2
DougC 2,641 #3 Posted December 9, 2022 I use bait packs in my barns and machine sheds. Tomcat. Comes in large bucket and has enough product to kill the mice and rats all winter.
CCW 1,295 #4 Posted December 10, 2022 Imagine killing all those mice in your house. The decaying bodies would reek for some time after.

They were in my attic of my shop a couple winters ago. Working late, I could hear the screeching, chatter and chewing. I launched a whole bunch of poison up there, scattered all about. In a day or so, the noise was gone. The week of stink was well worth the joy of knowing they were gone for a while.

Dangit... need to adjust the pedal, trap ain't staying set. NOPE! Mouse daid. Reset the trap, place again, same thing... walk away, SNAP! another mouse... This would go on four or five times. Apparently they were living under the boiler where I set the traps and it was too easy for them to get to... and they couldn't resist the Peanut butter. 2

EB-80/8inPA 1,641 #10 Posted December 10, 2022 I heard a scraping sound the other day. It was a mouse dragging the trap by his rear leg. I dispatched him and left him outside for a snack. Whatever it was that ate him left the tail, lol. I guess mouse tails aren’t the tastiest. My cat won’t eat them. He just messes them up playing with them. They sometimes escape before he kills them and crawl off to croak in some inaccessible place. That stinks. Just remember: ”The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.” - some geezer

I believe I have them (mice, I think) in my attic of my house… would you recommend this in a house ?
Darb1964 1,042 #12 Posted January 16, 2023 My house was built in1830 and has a stone foundation, some is only three feet high. I've insulated the floors with foam boards and spray foam. That's made a big difference on heating and the amount of mice we have. I guess mice don't like spray foam, I keep traps set Year round. I'll get a few then nothing for a while. Have barn cats for the barn. It's a constant battle, not feeding the birds helps keep the mice and bears away. 2

You know… I probably would but I’d be inclined to trap them first, and maybe look for their inlet to block. Steel wool and spray foam do wonders on their little holes.
SylvanLakeWH 25,535 #14 Posted January 16, 2023 Traps... just satisfying hearing that snap and knowing they aren't going into your wall to stink it up... 2
19richie66 17,500 #15 Posted January 16, 2023 Piece of bacon tied to the trap with sewing thread. I have never had an empty trap for long and they can’t take the bait and run off. Everyone loves bacon 👍 2

I'd have the trap snapped on my nose because as you correctly pointed out, I love bacon...

This place at the top of the vinyl siding at my bay window looks like a highly suspicious entry point, and it is close to where I heard scratching in the wall. First thing I thought was maybe a bat going in and out and leaving a dirty spot… I did see mouse pills on the floorboard in front of the furnace in the attic… But does it seem strange that a mouse would crawl way up there to enter ?… hard to figure out their M.O. Horse Newbie 7,069 #20 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) Here is a video I made last night of the “scratching/ chewing” in the wall. This is about 12 ft or so from the suspected entry point… At the end when I knocked on the wall the noise stopped… IMG_2012.MOV Edited January 17, 2023 by Horse Newbie

Mice will craw up a corner piece, try sealing both ends of it with spray foam. Another source of problems is bees, I have had them go into a place just like that and set up housekeeping way back in.
Pullstart 62,837 #22 Posted January 17, 2023 Make sure wherever you spray foam, treat it with steel wool first. They can chew right through the foam, but don’t like the steel wool at all.
Rob J. 1,941 #23 Posted January 17, 2023 They can easily access the corners of the house in most cases. That’s where I see them go in. I spend the summer months thinning the herd so to speak. Rodents are lazy. Why build a home when one already exists. It’s a constant battle.
