A couple days ago mine locked up, it’s in my C195 I would like to keep it all original but if it’s not worth rushing into I would still do it in the future but I would just re-power it for now. 953 nut 55,284 #2 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) First I would suggest you do an autopsy and determine what made it lock up. A flywheel magnet coming loose would lock the flywheel and not require an engine rebuild. What was going on at the time it locked up? Was the oil level good? Will the crank shaft move at all? Start with removing the flywheel. If nothing looks out of place there then remove the heads and take a look at the cylinders. I kind of made like her slight squealing noise and kinda started to slow down I shut it off immediately and when I went to go try it again no budge, There’s no oil leaking anywhere and it has oil in it 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

8ntruck 7,014 #5 Posted December 10, 2022 I'll be watching this with interest. The KT19 series 1 engine in my C-195 fires right up and runs well. But, it is smoking. I'm kind of wrestling with the same question. I need to take the heads off and take a look at the cylinders before making a decision. Koehler considers the KT19 to be obsolete, so OEM parts are getting rare. If you want to stay in the 20hp range, new and used engines typically have 4 figure price tags. A do it yourself overhauls with machine shop work is going to be right at 4 digits...if you can round up all the parts. Did my magnum 18 $900 almost 2 years ago.
