ebinmaine 67,562 #1 Posted December 8, 2022 I need to make a gasket that goes between the case halves of a Sundstrand mid-70s transmission. Only reference point I have is a leftover piece from doing a manual transmission in the past. It's very thin. 1/16" thickness maybe? Maybe less? What say you folks?

WHX?? 48,827 #6 Posted December 8, 2022 Pretty sure he has them. Might want to give him a jingle. Didn't we get them from him when we did that Bronco refresh @Achto?

Ed Kennell 38,200 #16 Posted December 8, 2022 I never had one apart, but 1/16" seems too thick. I would have guessed 1/32". 1 1
stevasaurus 22,763 #17 Posted December 8, 2022 Right Ed...1/32nd. You can buy 1/32nd material at Autozone in 1' x 3' pieces for about $6.00. Buy one and then use the material to make 3 more. It is nice to have a hole punch to make nice holes.

If the plier type isn't large enough, you can get individual punches in sets. I bought a cheap set of "cutter style" punches for leather working similar to this. Since I didn't need all the shapes as "closed" figures, I cut a couple of them open with the band saw, so I could do smooth outside and inside curves as well as short straight sections.

I'd like to get this thing put back together this weekend so I decided to pick up a roll of sheet goods as suggested. What I ended up with is 1/32nd Felpro Karropak. 10 minutes ago, Handy Don said: set of "cutter style" punches @Oldskool Mike being as ornery as he is 🤪 was nice enough to send me a set of those. Should be a good experiment.

stevasaurus 22,763 #21 Posted December 8, 2022 The Kero-Pac is the right stuff. Videos exist on you-tube that show how to use a Ball Peen hammer to peen the edges of the material on the casting and then punch the holes. 1

Jimbo I'm thinking this'll be the axle set I try to make a full groove keyway in using a 4" angle grinder. Got some junk axles to practice on.

Best have a wheel that is really square. Maybe try cutting the outside slots with a thin dremel cut off wheel?? Reminds me of Dan's lathe ... a grinder with the motor running! 1
