Appears to be a nice clean unit, decals have me scratching my head though.

Can't find any info on that 5sp call out, wondering if anyone here knows what that nonsense all about?

Was there a LAWN tractor around that vintage that would have had a 5-speed like a Peerless for instance?

Judging by the itty-bitty front wheels and muffler, it looks like a grass cutter with a different hood ??

A B-111 had a vertical shaft with a peerless or Foote… 800 specials had a horizontal shaft and light duty transmission… not sure about black hood variants though.

Tractor Data says it should be Kohler 8hp single, and a hi-lo 3sp + 2reverse.

Maybe just semantics, but to me, that is an 8speed trans, not 5.

I don't think that's semantics at all my friend. I would call it more like elementary mathematics.

Tractor Data

Link?  Model?

this picture zoomed and lighting modified looks like it said more, like some of it was covered up or changed.  See the rounded rectangular shape to the left of the 5 and speed?

louvered black hoods were the vertical shaft B's... Perhaps either a hood swap on a C or a horizontal swap on a B... :confusion-confused:

Im guessing a C 85 with swapped B hood due to pto arm and belt guard...

In light of @Pullstart comment above, here's what a C decal would look like:

Here's a B-85 image of tractor data. notice pto arm totally different...

There is something about those hood decals that isn't right. The one on the right looks correct as far as the "5" to the "speed" and the speed to the horse head. The one on the left is not aligned correctly, either the "5" to the "speed" and the "speed" to the horse head.

You can see in the second picture it’s an 8-speed, so I’m going to go with it’s a C-85 with a B-115 5-speed hood!

I thought so too, the C-8 & the EIGHT under them have been removed / covered up somehow.

What bothers me is why / who would do such a thing?

Budding forger practicing on his tractor? Sore loser at Battleship? Mr.Clean trying out his new Magic Eraser? Roving gang of hooligans? :dunno:

I'm making sure all my doors are locked tonight... :scared-eek: :laughing-rolling:

I am laughing thinking about the online fights over what is right and wrong or factory built 30 years from now with all the customs that have been built!!!:happy-jumpeveryone:

Most of them look to be built by the factory!!

Lightly or highly modified, they always generate welcome discussion. Almost nothing I have is original, but that won't stop me from enjoying them!

I love seeing how folks keep these old machines going!

I think that short louvered hood will look awesome with some wider rear tires and a high back seat.

You could name it Stubbie!

On the serious side I took Hot Wheels to a local tractor show and a father and son were giving it the once over. The father (about eighty or so years young) was pointing out everything that had been altered and was having a great time doing so. He had been the owner of the Wheel Horse dealership in town from the '70s to the mid '80s. We had a great conversation and when it was time to move on the son thanked me for spending so much time talking with his dad. He said that his dad had Alzheimer's and seeing my :wh: had generated the most lucid conversation he had engaged in for several months.

That is awesome!! My Mom's memory is failing so I can understand his happiness with seeing that!!!
