19richie66 17,500 #107 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Decided to give the front end a little different look. Although I like the look if the D series, I always thought the grille was just BIG. So I figured I would do an insert using an old D160 grille I had laying around. Took 4” out of the old grille width & 2” heightwise. I also welded the bottom up solid. This gives me 2” of clearance on the sides and 1” clearance on the top and bottom. The inner grille is only 2” wide as viewed from the side so it will clear the mufflers. It may also poke out the front a half inch. May make new slats to make the center or come up with some kind of mesh to stick in there. We’ll see. I have part numbers for mustang rotors. Going to scavenge the local salvage yards around here after I get it moving. 19richie66 17,500 #111 Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) Not much but I built a small ladder subframe to stiffen this thing up. Real flexy without it. It’s 1” square tube welded to leftover Attachamatic brackets. I’m remaking the side mount for the transmission as it was kinda temporary anyways. It will be a 1/4” thick by 3” wide steel plate that will span the subframe and then stick out for the trans mount. I want it all to be able to be removable with 3/8 bolts. The hydraulic cylinder for the steering will somehow mount off one of the lower tubes, not sure which side. I hope to get the gaskets and new seal installed soon in the Eaton and the try to fire it up. Once I know it will move, I’ll get the steering figured out. 19richie66 17,500 #119 Posted February 27, 2023 Converted front end to 5 lug hubs. Added a 7/8” wide piece of 1” id tubing to the spindles for the seal to ride on. Also reinstalled the transmission so I could install the pilot bushing to the plate. Used a gt14 rockshaft pivot collar to hold the bushing with two small set screws threaded into the collar. Cut my output shaft coupler to length and fitted a solid keyed shaft. This rides in a bearing mouted to a plate that will get welded to the subframe. The original 48 tooth panzer sprocket will get cut down to about 6” diameter as it has a stub shaft welded to the center of it. It will have a sprocket that lines up with the transmission output sprocket. Chugging along….. 2 6 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
