ebinmaine 67,562 #1 Posted November 30, 2022 On my 75 C160 Automatic I want to remove the plastic "handle" at the end of the motion control lever. I'm seeing maybe a heat gun? Any hints on actual practice? Other methods?
ri702bill 8,327 #2 Posted November 30, 2022 Find an open end wrench that is a good fit on the shaft and the bottom of the "handle" Use the Heat gun, but judiciously - don't overdo it. Use a heavy glove, better yet, one of those silicone grippy pads for opening bottle caps. Grip the handle, give it an upward twist while applying upward pressure on the wrench below. Steady pressure - don't have a "Bumps and Bruises" event once it comes loose and whack your noggin with the wrench!! Unless Trina films it..... 1

Horse Newbie 7,071 #5 Posted November 30, 2022 @ebinmaine Why didn’t you put this in the restoration thread ?… same tractor isn’t it, and aren’t you taking the plastic off as part of the restoration ? … make it easier for your fans on here to keep up with what Trina’s doing… 5
squonk 41,137 #6 Posted November 30, 2022 Leave it on and just tape it. It's all I've ever done. Why make more work for yourself? Colossus would have been done 2 years ago! 2

I want to remove it and use something longer.

I've had a similar thought for the console-mounted levers on our "-H" tractors. Something taller that extends above the operators leg, for instance! D_Mac 8,619 #9 Posted November 30, 2022 Can I ask why you want to remove it ?

Horse Newbie 7,071 #11 Posted December 1, 2022 (edited) Oh so since you’re not “ technically “ doing it as part of the restoration (“I just want a bigger handle”), then that warranted a complete separate thread… Trying to boost your content count and improve your rank ? squonk 41,137 #18 Posted December 1, 2022 (edited) Get 2 rolls of Gorilla tape and wind it around the handle. Instant bigger handle. Edited December 1, 2022 by squonk 2 1 5

I seem to recall the addition of a wood lathe to your shop. A nicely turned handle would be an option. Edited December 1, 2022 by Handy Don

D_Mac 8,619 #25 Posted December 1, 2022 Just to add my 2 cents. I have a 875 with a plow set up. In certain positions the plow left to right lever is really close , almost touches the automatic forward/reverse lever. A thicker handle on either lever would create a problem. 1
