Not Again!

13 years ago just before I retired, I bought my first/only brand new car. A little Mazda 2. In the first two years of ownership it got hit twice while SWMBO was driving it. She's the main driver and it seldom goes far.

First time front RH side. The second time front LH side. Neither time was it her fault and the other drivers insurance paid for the repairs..

Today she went over to the youngest daughters in town, just 3 miles away. Literally just yards from Lori's house, a car pulled out from the opposite side of the road and hit the front RH side. Lori's husband got all the drivers details and took some photo's of both cars. It is now in the hands of the insurers yet again. Still drivable though and Carol is OK.

The other car was a Ford Fiest and belongs to the boyfriend of the woman driver. Nice big scratch the length of the LH side. I don't think BF will be happy.

How is dealing with insurance over there? It’s sometimes a pain in the butt here. My daughter seems to “crunch up” everything she drives and now that she is on her own insurance and not mine (whew!) she’s getting a taste of what I went thru each time she hit something.

I'd still have the Land Rovers if it wasn't for the cost of fuel.

Spoke to soon. Because the car is 13yr old they've offered us £1,400 and write the car off and take it away. :bitch:Where can I get another car, as reliable and trouble free, as this one has been in 13yrs and 95,000 miles.?

Now SWMBO is rather fond of her little Mazda. So I called at a car body repair shop today. He's going to give us a quote tomorrow. Should be under a thousand using second hand parts. Insurance companies require new, expensive parts to be used.

I'll see what he says then be seeing about accepting the offer, keeping the car and having it repaired.

Careful... will they payout and let you keep it??? I'm thinking they would want to recoup costs by selling it to a parts operation or resell with a clouded title...??? :confusion-confused:

Most of that will buff out

Duct tape should repair the rest.

Got the insurance sorted. Refused the first offer but this morning got them to increase it. We're keeping the car and getting it repaired ourselves. We'll come out with a few hundred to spare. Which means I can have some scratch damage to the LH rear corner of the Santa Fe sorted. That was done when parked and by some person unknown.

 Good result I think. :)

Yessir. Little gorilla tape.... :D

Glad everyone is okay. We have some pretty narrow roads out here in rural Southern Indiana. I have gone up many a hill on our back roads and top the hill... meet a car running 55MPH directly in the center of the road... likely texting on their cellphone.

My fear is... one day, I will not get lucky enough to avoid a collision. Happens all the time here. The worst part about is, there is no room to maneuver with ditches on either side of the road and electric-poles... mailboxes. Thus, I always back it down to 35 when I am on those roads. Other drivers out there don't seem to care though who they injure or kill. :(

I can only hope that if it happens, I am in the Explorer and not the Ranger. (Most people would say the opposite for insurance purposes... buttuh... the explorer would likely allow me to survive... while the Ranger... I would likely end up inside the motor). 🙃

I say that because my uncle always drove Rangers... he was in a head-on collision that killed him.
