Leads me to believe that detent is rounded over.  Can you see where the rod drops into the detent?

I can kinda see it. I need to take a look at a couple of my parts junkers and see what it looks like to compare. The washer/spacer has definitely taken up some of the slop. Probably not the correct fix but it should get me thru this winter.
This machine will live at my in-laws to assist with snow clearing there and I’ll be the only one using it.

Mike how come you do not have a solid mount instead of a chain? It is a plate with two tabs with clips. This puts a lot put constant pressure on the plow. Matt sells them the seat guy.

@Sparky personally prefer the  closest hole for lifting ease , something that I  really get after is functioning  detailing , often add washers and lubricant to every transition  stage . if its rusty , and all related points are rusty , how do you think its going to move ? regularly firm up and tweak what its saposed to do . every related picture I  look  at , including those above , show me missed opportunity to correct and enhance , issues . https://www.amazon.com/XHF-4mm-Wrapping-Range-1-5mm-  see the opportunity for this ?  that lift lever rod will hold moisture in its vertical access point , rusting up in place any intended function , regularly give mine a tube extension , shot of  penetrating oil , my related lever end clicks into place . if you also snug up the starting point of a lever ,/ lubricate , it works with a solid ease , thinking of replacing that trunnion , with a male/ female heim joint , don't tell any body , just an idea ,  oily pete
