There was a LOT more than wild turkey 🦃 back in the mid 1600s in the "Plimouth" bay area. Being a coastal area it's far more likely the tradition started with a water bird. So a turkey we be overkill for the group that will gather. So the little lady decided a large roaster chicken would do. Pullstart 62,895 #8 Posted November 24, 2022 I love smoked chicken! It is about the best way to keep that meat moist in my experience. We had a good sized gift card from our farmer to the local Turkey farm, so it was only fitting to get a good one. Nearly 26 lbs! It’s stuffed with onions, butter and apples. Vacuum seal your left overs in meal size portions, ( I usually do about 14-16oz to a bag for 2 people) then throw them in the freezer. When you need a quick meal pull a bag out of the freezer, throw it in a pot full of cold water, bring the water to a boil, boil for 10 to 15 minutes, cut the bag open dump it on your plate & eat. Will taste just like it did the day you first made it. We do this with a lot of left over roasted or smoked meats. I can truly say that even amongst the face-stuffing, laughter, commotion, and conversation, I will reflect on what it means to be blessed enough to even be able to celebrate the day, and give thanks to a loving God for what he provides. What a most valuable blessing we were bestowed when God placed us on this land, in this country, and I hope that all who reads this agrees… So enjoy your turkey you turkey’s… and have a great and grateful Thanksgiving ! Easy to do over indirect heat on the grill. I had an older Char Broil 7000 series gas grill for years, but it had no sideburner and a not-tall cover. Too short for beer can chicken. A neighbor put a series 8000 out for the trash, it had a sideburner and a tall cover. Scooped that up - that weekend mine now had a sideburner and a choice of hoods. Beer can chicken is a great excuse to drink half of a 16 ounce can of beer (pouring out half the can down the drain is considered Alcohol Abuse) !! Fryer is heated up now... waiting on the female lady women to do their injection and seasoning magic!!! The dinner: Turkey Squash Casserole Cranberries Mac and Cheese Sweet potato casserole Mashed potatoes Green bean casserole Deviled eggs Stuffed celery Stuffing/dressing casserole (YUCK) Regular gravy Giblet gravy Rolls Punch For desert: Pumpkin cheescake Pumpkin Pie Pecan Pie Cherry pie EVERYTHING is homemade.
