stevasaurus 22,725 #178 Posted December 29, 2022 (edited) Do not put it on backward, it will most likely leak. File any burrs and use tape over the key way and the end of the axle. You want to use 90 wt if you can get it, but those other one will work...do not use 40 wt (that was for a different situation which you do not have). ebinmaine 67,462 #179 Posted December 29, 2022 Joe ya wanna have that seal on the warm side too. Not setting on a cold shelf in a cold garage. They'll tend to fight a lot less when warm.

I found where Steve gave the SKF# in the pinned help comments and ordered one from Amazon. I used the input pully and even chamfered the rubber lip off to make sure it wasn't holding the edge out. It started and went in except where the key-way was on the input pulley. Messed up a third one. The next one is goin' in bakards! I found a better metal cylinder to drive the input shaft seal in; a half inch steel pipe. You have to cut it off square and remove the seam that's inside. There's no keyway gap to allow part to stay out while the rest goes in. I cut the pipe in a pipe threading machine then had to file the cut end to square it up. It'll go into my other special tools collection. When the two new seals come in from WheelHorsePartsAndMore I'll try once more to put it in the correct direction with that steel pipe before giving up. I'm thinking that if I ever have to remove it that one put in backwards would be harder to get out. Edited December 29, 2022 by GAJoe
953 nut 55,211 #181 Posted December 30, 2022 I keep an assortment of short pieces of square cut PVC and PVC couplings to drive seals in.

I tried to go with PVC but couldn't find one with an ID slightly over 5/8" (the shaft size); the 1/2" steel pipe is.

GAJoe 844 #186 Posted March 12, 2023 I should have bought stock in a bearing distributor. But I'm glad that it can be serviced and repaired for it's age.
