654 and similar tractors?

I had an old 654 while growing up and would like find a clean or restored tractor similar to that. I tried looking through the pictures and could not tell if any other models had the same hood as the 654? Was there a Wheel horse made with that smooth hood (no square tank) that had electric start and I bigger engine?

654 is the only one with electric start....they did make the 704 kohler 7 hp but it was pull start :thumbs2:

You could look at some of the later 60's Lawn Rangers, I think the hood is the same as the 654, but I think the hood stand is a little different. And the later Rangers have the square fenders, instead of the round ones on the 654.

They had the same 6hp Tecumseh, both in electric and recoil start.

There are a few pictures in the gallery.

I have an untidy one here in NE Ohio (with a recoil start 8hp Tecumseh) that I'm not too attached to, but I see you are looking for a nice one...

stone_henge, thanks. Then I'll probably be patient and try and find a 654.

sorekiwi, I am not sure if I want to do a full restoration on one because I don't have a good place to tear one down and do it right. I am hoping I'll find one that is clean enough the way it is that I'll be happy with it.

That one reason I had to have a 654...Overall I think they make the best looking front engine round hood....To bad they went to the square hood in 65 I think this was the next design that was coming, but things changed.

stone_henge, I was looking at your tractor in the picture gallery and that is a beautiful tractor! I wish you were closer it would be nice to see it in person.
