Zeek 2,286 #1 Posted November 13, 2022 (edited) I bought this 1040 Farmall H that had a belt pulley attachment. The belt pulley was kind of "ratty restored", so I found another that was in a little better shape and restored it. These look like they are made of compressed wood of some sort, interesting design. The one I installed I left original except for painting the metal. The belt portion I just hit with paste wax. This is the best tractor related forum ever, so I can't move even @nylyon if I wanted to. Go red Edited November 13, 2022 by Zeek 10 3

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #3 Posted November 13, 2022 I wish I hadn't sold my '41 H last year. Of the Farmalls, the H is my favorite. But, if I had to my pickings, I would go with an unstyled John Deere A or B. My L isn't too far behind. Have you visit the Farmall Cub forum yet? If you register and get two posts, you can download all their literature, some on the H. http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/ http://farmallcub.com/fcman/ http://farmallcub.com/fcman/index.php?dirpath=./files/Farmall H, HV, Super H, 300 and 350&order=0

It actually made of wood discs all pressed together. The studs on the front go all the way through to the back side plate to keep them together. They came in two or three different diameters. It's interesting reading about them and I'm sure there are somethings I needed to figure out. One thing is my light switch only turns them on and off, not hi/low like it should so I have to sort that out. I got the original owner's manual for it which I needed because all the different levers, adjustments, lube points, etc. There was certainly a lot more to mess with on these old tractors.
6wheeler 603 #6 Posted November 19, 2022 Looks good. Technically? It is Paper discs. So? It is wood, sort of. They can be replaced with a steel pulley too. Since I am guessing you are not going to use the pulley? Painting it is fine. Using it though? No paint. Slips and burns the belt. We still have and use our H. Mostly on augers. My JD A has a steel pulley as with all of the other 2 cylinder Deeres we have. I might be wrong. But I have only seen that style pulley on IH and Oliver tractors. I did see an F20 IH that had a Cork like grain on the Pulley with diamond cut grooves criss crossing it. looking good though. Are you using it to do anything? Just to haul me around the countryside The black on the surface isn't paint that I can tell. I'm not sure what it is. The pulley on my '34 Hercules 3.5 HP Hit and Miss looks the same way. I assumed it was something picked up from belt use. On 11/19/2022 at 5:05 PM, Jeff-C175 said: I'm going to speculate a bit and say... Linoleum ... I'm stiil not sure. It could be that. The way the old one separated, it looks a little thicker to me than paper, but I guess depending on the process, it could be. The new one is in good enough shape I can see it was made by Rockwood, but I could find any information on that on the interweb .
