88 520H Hydraulic lift

Recommended Posts

Evening Guys, need some trouble shooting help. My lift has stopped going up and down, it was working fine in July and Augest. I am getting ready to install the blower and need it to work.

Tractor drives fine, no issues, I checked the lever to the valve, everything is moving fine. I took the lever and everything apart and checked it for slop and tightened everything up. So question is where do I start? I am thinking that there is only one hydraulic pump and the spool valves direct fluid to the trans or the lift.

Is the fluid level reading full on the dip stick in the hydro. ?  What fluid are you using I hope 10 w 30 motor oil. You say you checked the lever function and it is hooked up and the tractor drives  fine. That kinda points to the cyl. and you say nothing is leaking....

Does the piston move or try to move when you engage the lift valve?

No cylinder movement. Getting ready to change filter and oil. No major leaks, some weeping

it is not unusual for the lift to be slow to lift in cold weather i had to let my 520 run for 5 min today before it would lift the blower!

That's true with these Eaton 1100s.    I have 4, 2-520s, 1-417, and 1-312.     The 312 is the only one that requires warm up for the lift to work.

Wheel Horse does recommend a 10 minute warm up for all the Eaton 1100s to prevent transmission damage.

I took this to mean it is warmed up and the lift still is not working.

Here's an update, I got the lift working, I don't know what the fix was, because seeing the unit is 40 years old, I rebuilt the cylinder, the spool valve, and the hoses. I am thinking it may have been the spool valve, this is a big maybe. One thing I want to look into is the hoses, I have seen in the past were a hose internally fails and becomes like a check valve. When i get time i am going to see if they still flow. I also changed out the fluid.
