First snow.

It was 80 F on Thursday.  Mid 30’s yesterday.

Last night I checked the weather at bedtime and the skies were clear with a slight chance of flurries overnight.

Woke up to an honest 6” on the ground here in southern Illinois.  Too deep for the dog to do her business without me first shoveling a spot.

The weather people usually do a good job, but they missed this one.

Mom and Dad - 30 miles North as the crow flies - got nothing.

I do like winter but I wasn’t ready for it.  Glad I put a blanket of mulch over the garlic  the other day.

We got around 3 inches on higher elevations... 2 inches on the ground. :banana-dance:

Not enough to plow, as the driveway thawed almost immediately... but enough to have some fun on the 800S... doughnuts in the snow... LOL :ychain:

'twas 80 degrees yesderday... :hide:

It is 72 here , with wet leaves every where. Wonder when @squonk is coming to clean up my yard?

I was assuming I had one more mowing left for the year, but the long range forecast is showing cold weather so I might be done.  I usually cut the grass one or two clicks lower on the mower to encourage fallen leaves to just be transient occupants of my yard but I didn’t do that yet.

We had pretty mild fall temperatures so far but we’ve also had some days of incredible winds.  It was also quite dry this fall so the trees went straight from green to brown instead of exploding into their normal colors. Most of the trees lost their leaves due to this combination but there are some hangers on.  Even the oak trees are much more bare than usual.

We’re apparently due for colder than normal weather for the next couple of weeks.   If I get the snow thrower ready I’m sure it will keep it from snowing again.  If it leave it in pieces, it almost guarantees I’ll need it.

Worst of all, I think I missed the best of the fall fishing.

Steve, i got my blower out and got it ready a few weeks ago and we didn't get any of that snow, proof there might be some validity to your theory.

Today I took some measures to guarantee a warmup:

1. I cleaned the lawnmower, ran it out of gas, changed its oil, and put to bed.

2.  I dumped the gas out of the weed eater, ran it dry,  and hung it in the garage.

3. I put the chute back on the snow thrower, gassed it up and gave it a test run in the snow from yesterday.

While I was at it I also exercised the generator and shuffled things around in the garage so it can be accessed quickly if needed during one of our common ice storms we get every year.

Hopefully these little gestures will be my hedge against wintertime calamities this season.  If nothing else it reinforced to my neighbors the notion that I own way too many things that have engines.
