TJ5208 1,824 #1 Posted November 10, 2022 So I decided to stick a set of 25 inch ATV tires underneath my tractor so I had to lift the fender pan. And the tires are being a pain to try to take off the rims. I still have the other side to get off but here's my progress so far. @857lover has been watching this I already told him I'm probably going to take the ATV tires to a shop and get them took off because I don't feel like destroying them.
Panther416-8 341 #2 Posted November 10, 2022 Doesn't that lift make the trans oil check and fuel refill difficult at best?
kpinnc 12,020 #3 Posted November 10, 2022 You can add blocks underneath the tank to raise the filler neck. Probably up to about 3/4 inch.

Pullstart 62,851 #5 Posted November 10, 2022 Did that tire rip like that, or was it cut off the wheel?

Achto 27,571 #9 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) Slide hammer bead breaker will get those tires broke off the rim. This is what I use on farm tractor tires & other tires that won't cooperate. https://www.amazon.com/Esco-70150-Slide-Hammer-Breaker/dp/B01DY9HBFK/ref=asc_df_B01DY9HBFK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312070574797&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=479455778645694490&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1028137&hvtargid=pla-627895104447&psc=1 Edited November 10, 2022 by Achto
Pullstart 62,851 #10 Posted November 10, 2022 And I recently figured out a little air pressure in the tire helps to pop the bead where you want to also… 2

My transmission dipstick is already close to being flush with the seat pan. Not sure how that could be adjusted other than to fashion a new dipstick tube to thread into the trans and lengthen the dipstick itself.

I just question why you didn't just take it to a tire shop? They will remove them and put the new ones on for you... Don

That tells me the tires were dry rotted and junk anyway. Unless you had that pry bar sharpened up to play mumblety peg with.

I went under the fender and gas tank bracket on my 312-8. The lift tube will be a problem on the hydro if you go under the bracket.
Snoopy11 5,714 #18 Posted November 11, 2022 (edited) I would like to see the pry bar, because if you mean something other than tire SPOONS... then you are using the wrong tool to begin with. Screwdrivers and pry bars have their own uses, WAY away from tires... Don Edited November 11, 2022 by Snoopy11
Pullstart 62,851 #19 Posted November 11, 2022 Ok. Tires were junk. Can we drop that and move on to the tractor? TJ, a pry bar is a valiant effort at removing the tire from the rim and I can see how it would tear an old tire. Can’t save ‘em all. Is there a reason you can’t use the wheels that the ATV tires are on?

Snoopy11 5,714 #23 Posted November 11, 2022 2 hours ago, Pullstart said: Ok. Tires were junk. Can we drop that and move on How do you know the tires were junk? What evidence do you have of that? Seems to me that it was merely preference that these tires get changed... nothing wrong with that, but I have seen tires in MUCH worse shape still rolling around. Previous to them being amputated from the rim, I don't see any evidence that those tires were 'junk' ...or that they would not hold air. I see 12 inch tubes in the pictures, so it appears to me that the tires might have had tubes in them to begin with. Even if they didn't hold air for whatever reason, those tires look to be in good enough shape to tube (or re-tube) them... and it certainly would have been cheaper in TJ's position to use new tubes. I could easily tear a hole in even a brand new tire with the wrong tools. We don't know if the tires were bad or not... we can only look at pictures. If it was just preference that these tires get changed, then so be it. Just don't make excuses for using the wrong tools and cutting tires off rims to change them... that is a desperation move that shouldn't be recommended or repeated... Pullstart 62,851 #24 Posted November 11, 2022 I’m not going to argue, it doesn’t really matter why he’s changing them. It might just be a good time to ignore his actions if you don’t approve of them, or give constructive criticism. Sorry, I just think this topic got pushed too far out of hand for no reason. I’m done now. 3
Snoopy11 5,714 #25 Posted November 11, 2022 Hey, Kev-dog I'm not trying to argue either... I just hate to see TJ get into a position where... now he is forced to buy tires or whatever the case. He is on a tight budget and tires aren't cheap anymore, neither is getting tires put on at a tire shop!!! I'm not trying to make fun, or whatever the case... maybe I am not coming across correctly. Unfortunately, it's too to give any advice/constructive criticism now... Don
