Bill D 1,915 #1 Posted November 9, 2022 Which is better when rebuilding hydraulic system components, such as lift valves, cylinders, etc., Viton o-rings or Buna o-rings, and why? I've always leaned towards Viton for the heat and chemical resistant properties.
peter lena 8,589 #2 Posted November 9, 2022 @Bill D major difference is the temp ranges viton o rings go to 446 deg temp rating , buna o rings only go to 257 deg , so if you are using either in a hi heat set up , for continuous use , use the viton . buna in a less stressful seal set up . another thing thats good to use in initial seal installation is , SUPER LUBE , synthetic lubricant , its a food grade lubricant that just works with just about any kind of seal wall setting , this is available at your local h/ w store small bottle about $ 6 , very good for gas tank valve installation , makes rubber base seal and valve installation , smooth easy . personally use super lube in all my choke and throttle cables . good luck , pete
